The tour is designed to discover the neighborhoods Prenzlauer Berg and Mitte, to walk the former East and West parts of the city and see how the city has been changing in the past years. We will meet at Eberswalder Straße (station) walk down Kastanienallee to Mauerpark and continue our walk to Mitte. The tour will end in Mitte in Auguststraße. We will pass by historical sights and cultural places that are important to understand Berlins cultural life and subculture. We will explore Berlins diversity, special boutique shops, bars, cafes, alternative living projects, backyards and all the things that make Berlins neighborhoods unique. I will tell you about Berlins history, about the Berlin Wall and how the city has been changing since then. The tour will be about gentrification, the fight of Berlins citizens to fight against it, about urban development, alternative culture and subculture, about art and lifestyle, food culture, street art and Berlins nightlife. You will get an overview of what makes this city so special to its people and so different to other cities in the world. You will get lots of insider information and you can ask questions during the tour about anything you are interested in to know.
I'm Emiko, I was born in Berlin the 09.11.1989 exactly the day the Berlin Wall came down and lived in Berlin all my life so I know the city pretty well. I studied Cultural Studies, Social Studies, Migration and Linguistics, Sociology and Urban Studies. I travelled and worked in cultural projects all over the world, spent one year in Bogotá, Colombia and I worked in cultural projects for the UNESCO and Goethe Institut. I speak German, English, Spanish and French fluently and have great interest in culture, art, lifestyle, politics, performance, languages, tourism, etc. Since more than 5 years I work as a professional Lifestyle Tour Guide, so I do walking tours with small groups about Berlins history, art scene, cultural scene, lifestyle, urban development and gastronomy. I also work as a artist so I am very connected to Berlins art scene.
