Au programme

We will begin the tour at 12am at the market. Inside you will have the opportunity to look at the full range of fresh fish and seafood available before we buy 3 types of shellfish for example clams, cockles and gooseneck barnacles (popular local delicacies) from the ladies who work on the stalls. Then we will have the shellfish cooked for us so you can taste the freshness of the produce. After we'll go to my favourite restaurant in Pontevedra in Plaza de Verduras (Vegetable Square) where the food is simple, traditional and delicious. We will try a couple of sharing dishes together and have a drink there too, taking in the atmosphere of arguably the best plaza in town. The final part of the tour is at a more modern restaurant in Plaza de la Leña (Firewood Square) just around the corner from the previous. At this restaurant we will try some of the best local and Spanish wines. Guests will be more than welcome to order any tapas of their own whilst there, but I think most people will be content with all the food from earlier. To end we'll have a traditional liqueur and say our goodbyes. (Estimated finish time 3pm)

I am the founder of a small tours company that offers visitors an authentic Galician food and wine tour in the heart of Pontevedra. Back home in England, I was a food guide and host for wild food and foraging company ‘Taste the Wild’, but since university in London I have been working in Pontevedra as a guide, English teacher and artist. I've also worked on an organic farm near Ourense, Galicia where I gained hands on experience and knowledge about local produce. Over the last 4 years I have been privileged to gain and share an understanding of the delicious food and culture of this beautiful area. There are always certain places and opportunities that only a local could know about, and with my experience of local etiquette and language I will show you those secret gems that will make your visit truly memorable.

Le lieu

The market in Pontevedra is a hub of activity where many people buy fresh fish, seafood, vegetables, flowers and artisan foods. Once a month there is an art and fashion fair where there is often music, stalls and activities for children. Os Carballos is an old favourite that is an essential stop on any foodie's visit to Pontevedra. Loaira Xantar is one of the best contemporary restaurants in town with a great selection of wines and tapas.
