Guests will walk through the Wicker Park, Bucktown, and Logan Square neighborhoods learning about the numerous murals and street art installations in the area. From back alleys to public parks to permission walls (where anyone can create street art) we'll educate you and teach you about each of the artists, what inspires them, and the themes throughout their art. This walking tour takes place over 2 hours and walks about 2 miles, so make sure you are ready to get your steps in.
The Offbeat Street Art Tour is meant to help elevate and celebrate Chicago’s street art scene which historically has lived in a grey area between being legal and illegal at the same time. Often celebrated and shunned in the same sentence, it can often be unclear which installations are commissioned, legal, or simply put up on a whim. For years, I've studied and participated in the mural and street art scene in Chicago and Logan Square. This tour is intended to give both street art experts and novices an understanding of how street art is addressed differently in Chicago, the history associated with street art, murals, graffiti and tagging. Along with providing an overview of the neighborhoods, history, and future of street art in Chicago.
We begin the tour from Fairgrounds Coffee in Wicker Park where you can pickup a coffee, sandwich, water, or whatever you need. From there, we walk up Damen towards the 606 and see a few pieces along the way. We then walk down the 606 towards Milwaukee. From there, we'll walk up Milwaukee checking out murals and street art along the way. We end the tour at Galerie F, which is a local gallery showcasing local street artists.
