“The former residence of Dr. Takamaine's family in Kuromon-Ryokuchi” is between Omicho Market and Otebori moat of Kanazawa Castle Park, near the popular Ozaki Shrine.

Dr. Takamine who is a famous native chemist is commemorated by relocating his parents’ house with fantastic tea room here.
After stepping through the gate, you can see a little public space which includes Japanese and western style architecture in the yard.

At the beginning, I would like to explain the history of Matcha, with a focus of relationship with spiritual Zen method “Wa Kei Sei Jyaku”, why and how the tea ceremony spread to people in Kanazawa, and some manners as a guest.

Next I’ll show you a whole process to make a bowl of thin tea, which you can hardly see, to find “Wa Kei Sei Jyaku” in it while tasting Japanese sweets.

As for tea, you can enjoy a bowl of tea that I serve as well as make your own tea and taste it.

If you want to get valuable souvenirs (updated their photos here) selected from my favorite local supplier of utensils, please let me know when you apply this site.
Airbnb would charge you an extra fee(¥5000) for it later.

I hope you enjoy them!

I’m Tomomi, an instructor of the Way of Tea in Kanazawa, which once was a great castle town of the Kaga Domain Maeda Family.
They were instrumental in developing traditional Japanese high culture including the Way of Tea, and ordinary people here have been enjoyed it.

I’ve been living here, got some licenses at Ura Tea school and studied how to better explain and demonstrate it in English in Seattle, USA.

In my private life, I've been working as a pharmacist and raising up four children.
As a wife and mother, as a resident of this historical city, as a person who wants to contribute to a healthy life both physically and spiritually, and as a supporter for cultural succession, I would like to share the Way of Tea, Japanese culture, food and cuisine, sightseeing spot, history, ordinary life style in Kanazawa with you.

Incredibly beautiful ceremony hosted by an equally wonderful instructor in a truly serene setting. Tomomi discussed the ceremony’s historical significance and it’s special link to Kanazawa in a way that cherishes and honors the tradition. The experience submerses you into Japanese culture and helps connect the dots between nature, artistry and design, history, and spirit. After being served, attendees actually get to make tea themselves (under Tomomi’s expert guidance)! A true from scoop-to-sip process that cements this as a must-do experience with Tomomi when in beautiful Kanazawa, Japan.

Absolutely amazing experience, I have met with Tomomi before and she was as brilliant as always! Couldn't reccomend this enough! For anyone looking to see an ancient tradition of Japan from someone who is friendly, speaks English and is obviously passionate about her work, look no further.

Tomomi is a wonderful host. She is so friendly and likes meeting new people. We are so happy we did this private tea ceremony class. We learned all about the meaning of the tea ceremony, customs of tea houses, and even got to prepare a bowl of matcha ourselves! She also gave us a bit of history about Kanazawa. If you’re interested in owning matcha supplies, definitely purchase the souveneir. We wish we had. It’s really the best deal we could find, especially among all the tourist shops.
