Au programme

We meet up by the two stone pillars at Ingólfur Square. The square named after the first settler of Iceland, Ingólfur Arnarsson, so a perfect setting to start our walk through Icelandic history. From there, we walk to check out his Viking Longhouse, talk about the Icelandic Sagas a little, and discover how Reykjavik came to be.
In old town Reykjavik, we will see the oldest house in the city center dating back to 1762, and from the period Reykjavik became a town. We will check out an Elf stone in the city center and give a small glimpse into the mythology of Iceland, Elves & Trolls, and of course, the story of this particular Elf stone.
On we walk towards the Reykjavik harbor, admiring the magnificent Harpa concert hall before we walk past the Eagles hill where Icelanders come together on special occasions to celebrate. A stop by the oldest stone house in Reykjavik is in order, built in 1770, and there we talk about the story of how Iceland became an independent nation. It's a short walk up the main shopping street to look at the magnificent Hallgrímskirkjachurch, and of course, the topic there is the history of religion in Iceland.
A stop by the Reykjavik pond is in order, checking out the birdlife, The Reykjavik city council building, and admiring the scenery.
Our Final stop is by the Parliament building of Iceland, where we discuss politics & the guardian spirits ;).

Hi, my name is Valur and together with my expert local guides, we do the walking tours of Your Friend in Reykjavik. We know how to entertain as well as educate like hundreds of 5-star reviews can confirm. We've got a passion for our country, it's history, food, beer, and mythology and we try to make sure some of the love we have for Iceland rubs off onto our friends from around the world.
You are also in safe hands with us as we are official tour guides and members of the Icelandic Tourist Guide Association which is granted only to those who have passed a comprehensive one-year training program, approved by the Icelandic Ministry of Education.

Le lieu

We want you to feel the unique, friendly atmosphere of our quirky little city, not just to see the most popular tourist attractions. We’ll even have a small lesson on the Icelandic language so you can not only walk with a Viking but talk like one too.

We’ll be showing you our favorite places to eat, drink and visit (we also have an intimate knowledge of happy hour deals that we’re happy to share).

Accommodating, kind, humorous host. Not afraid to ask us questions making it more comfortable for us to also ask away. Great first introduction to Reykjavik and Iceland. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed our tour with Stefan for our first day in the city. He is a charming storyteller and guide and shared a lot of interesting history and local stories that really enriched our experience here in Reykjavik.

Definitely a good experience to go on when you first come to Reykjavík because you get a good overview of the city and Iceland’s history.

Our tour with Stephan(not sure on the spelling) was great. History, jokes, storytelling. My 17 year olds who don’t like tours loved it.

Our tour guide was Inka. She was great. Personable and conveying a broad range of knowledge/experience. She talked about Icelandic history but also have a sense of what life was like for her throughout her life. I also greatly enjoyed her appreciation for and experience of arts and culture. Bravo 👏

We were very lucky to be on the tour just the two of us. Stefan was a fantastic guide. He knew a lot of interesting things about the history and city and was very entertaining. Thanks a lot!
