We will start out at the barn and get Jericho ready for the hike by grooming him and getting his packs on. He absolutely loves all this attention and especially likes his long ears stroked. If we are lucky he may even treat us with one of his loud brays that can be heard throughout the neighborhood or take a roll in the dirt right before we groom him as though he is throwing down a challenge. As we do this I will give some information about wild donkeys and Jericho's background as well as safety tips. From there we will head out on an approximately 2 mile hike through Portuguese Bend stopping along the way for the many photo opportunities of the Palos Verdes coastline. I will talk about the unique Portuguese Bend area, which is the oldest continuous landslide in California, and the wildlife oasis this has created. Along the way we may see peacocks, hawks, rabbits, owls and even the occasional coyote. Water and snacks are available anytime in Jericho's packs but we better not forget to bring some carrots for him too. When we arrive back at the barn we will take off Jericho's gear and brush him down again as a thank you for his work. We will be traveling at the donkey's pace which allows you to see the world from a different perspective. So bring your sense of adventure and don't be afraid to get a little dirty!
