For those who want to know a little of the City's history (with a little bit of humour mixed in) :

My tour consists of visiting selected Lairs in the Old Burying Ground surrounding Glasgow Cathedral, the oldest (c 1560) Burying Ground in the City, where I tell the stories of some of those buried there, illustrated with their images to show how they reflect the history and development of the City of Glasgow from late Mediaeval times, through marriage and war with the Tudors, the Scottish Reformation, Cromwell and the Civil War, the Merchant City days, the '45 Jacobite Rebellion, the Shipbuilding and Heavy Engineering times to the present day and it's relevance to Scottish, British and World history. I do not shy away from the City's past involvement in Slavery.

A Walking disability is not necessarily a barrier.

(I offer this at a modest cost because I enjoy doing it so much, there are NO hidden extra charges. If Guests enjoy it too they may consider making a donation to the Cathedral or a charity of their choice at a later date.)

I am a retired professional person with a great interest and pride in my native city. My tour illustrates the history of Glasgow and it's place in Scottish, British and World history. This is the result of extensive research and historical detective work and is set in Glasgow's only surviving mediaeval building, Glasgow Cathedral.
I am a member of the Society of Friends of Glasgow Cathedral and a volunteer Guide there. I also provide a Genealogy service for those who wish to trace ancestors who maybe buried in the two Burying Grounds which surround the Cathedral (see the official Cathedral website). The oldest traceable Monumental Inscription there dates to 1595. I am also a member of the Society of Friends of Glasgow Necropolis the cemetery which rises on the hill above the Cathedral (but which is separate from the Cathedral).

Le lieu

There is only one location: The Old Burial Ground of Glasgow Cathedral, which is situated at the top of the High Street, Glasgow. Please note this is NOT the Glasgow Necropolis, which is quite separate.

Colin is very knowledgeable and his enthusiasm for Scottish history really shines through. A fascinating journey through the centuries, told through the lives of those memorialized in the cathedral grounds.
