Ramble in the Nocturnal Herb Market

Ramble in the Nocturnal Herb Market

Duration:2 heures en tout
Includes:Cuisine et Transport
Languages:Proposée en Anglais et Espagnol

À propos de votre hôte

I'm a cocktail bartender by trade and began visiting the market to source barks and herbs for ingredients over 2 years ago. I started going back regularly to learn about local plant-based medicine. Modern beverages wouldn't be the same without Central & South American plants - tonic water, Coca Cola, Campari, most blended Scotch whiskies, and others depend on ingredients native to the Americas…

Au programme

The smell of rue, chamomile, and cidrón, of forest and earth, of damp bark and unripe fruit - the nocturnal herb market is one of my favorite places in Bogotá. They say it is the only market in the world that focuses solely on aromatic herbs. The market is in a neighborhood that is not great at night, so we'll meet at Mesa Franca, a restaurant in Chapinero around 9:30pm. You are welcome to come…

Autres informations utiles

Bogotá is high in the Andes and gets chilly at night. Layers are a good idea. The market often has small puddles, leaves or rogue fruit on the floor. Wear practical shoes.

Ce qui est fourni

Warm jacket and practical walking-around shoes

Le lieu

We'll meet at the bar/restaurant Segundo, which was featured in Travel & Leisure last year as one of 4 essential spots for locally inspired drinks in Bogotá. You can just pop up for the meeting or come a little early and have a craft beer or cocktail. We'll then head to the nocturnal herb market, a plaza that twice a week stays open all night so that the herbs can arrive in the cool of the night.
