Vrsar, Istarska županija, Croatie

From the shores of the Adriatic to the lowlands and undulating hills in the hinterland, the natural wonders of Vrsar and its surroundings are the source of inspiration for every traveller desiring rest and relaxation. Nature has indeed been generous with this area and made it one of the most beautiful corners of the Mediterranean.
The sea landscape of Vrsar is dominated by an Archipelago of 18 islets, scattered along an indented coastline woven from wooded bays, capes and coves. As the waves lap the bluest lagoons, they play a true Adriatic rhapsody which sooths every soul and fills it with exceptional beauty.
The Lim Bay opens at the southern end of the town, meandering for 12 km towards the east, deeply incised into the heart of the Istrian mainland. Fresh water flows into the LimBay from the numerous underground springs, and its water sparkles with a characteristic blue-green colour.
The Romuald Cave, located at the eastern end of the LimBay, tells the legend of St. Romuald, a Benedictine hermit. The cave is entered through a half meter wide opening leading into an approximately hundred meters long interior consisting of several connected rooms.
Vrsar’s hinterland is the home of the 64 hectares large Kontija, a superbly well-preserved oriental hornbeam forest. More than 140 years old, this forest was given the status of special forest reserve and is considered an important local symbol. The diverse sports facilities located by the sea and the easily-accessible landscape of the hinterland make Vrsar the right place to enjoy all forms of active vacations.
Walking trails along the coast beckon for you to go for walk or a recreational run, and the kilometres of bike trails invite you for an exciting ride on two wheels through tourist resorts by the sea, through the Kontija forest or down the slopes of the LimskiBay.
Swimming and water sports are often the choice of our guests owing to the clean sea and modern well-furbished beaches where the renting of pedalos, kayaks and other sports equipment is simple. Apart from tennis courts, tourist resorts feature minigolf courses and table-tennis tables as well as courts where you can play football, handball, basketball and beach volleyball.
Starting from Vrsar one can easily embark on a caving or diving adventure, and reach the attractive rock wall near the Limski Bay. We recommend a boat trip as the best way to experience the beauty of the blues and the greens of the Mediterranean. Trip routes take you to various destinations along the richly indented west coast of Istria. The Sports Airport Vrsar is located is the middle of green fields alongside the Adriatic coast, not far from Lim Channel, a protected natural phenomenon.
Providing panoramic flights over Istria or flights to Venice, the airport is the perfect stop for any inquisitive traveller. At the Aero park, you can visit an exhibition of old planes, open all year round. There is also a small picture gallery featuring the history of aviation in Istria, an exhibition of artifacts linked to flying, a corner for the kids, and a charming terrace that is partly set under the wing of an old-timer plane, providing a unique experience. Several of the larger airplanes are open to visitors, letting you take a look at the cockpits. Through a rich repertoire of events from spring to late fall, and in winter as well, Vrsar unveils its dynamic appearance, filled with entertaining, musical, and cultural festivals.
The town abounds in sports tournaments and games. You can often hear live music coming from its summer terraces, while the notable events contribute to the cheerful pulse of this Adriatic town.
Vrsar Fishermen festivals celebrate the local fishing tradition. Besides enjoying fish specialities, you can also enjoy the folk group performances and pop music concerts during the evening. In high season, there can be a couple of thousand visitors having fun on the seafront promenade.
A series of concerts in St. Martin’s church is dedicated to classical and spiritual music, while The Sea and Guitars Festival explores the possibilities of classical guitar and brings together excellent musicians from all around the world.
In June you can’t miss Casanovafest, a few days celebrating love and erotica. The festival is based upon the notes found in the memoirs of Giacomo Casanova, a vagabond who, in the mid-18th century, visited Vrsar on two occasions. The festival also presents exhibitions, film screenings, concerts, and a selection of aphrodisiac foods.
Vrsar is shaking to the rhythm of jazz, blues and rock during Montraker Live Festival, a big music open air event on the Montraker peninsula, at the foot of the hill on which the old town lies.
All fragrances and aromas blend in Vrsar to give a harmonious overture into the characteristic gastronomy of Istria. Sea food, grilled fish and meat delicacies that can be tasted in charming restaurants and authentic konobas (taverns) are just a small part of the rich gourmet experience offered by Vrsar.
