My home is comfortable and developed through time with affection. Airbnb is on top attic floor with steep stairs so not appropriate for those with mobility issues - sorry. Double bedroom, bathroom, TV area + kettle, second bedroom with sofa bed for two children (pre-school go free) OR couple who can cope with intimate space!
Help-yourself breakfast included. Downstairs & garden accessible. Bikes available. Lively village and transport links good. Dogs welcome. Come to walk, cycle, rest, tour.

Le logement
The Airbnb attic space plus own door and (steep) stairway is exclusive to guests, as is the small shower room inc. toilet. There is a double room, a lounging area +TV, plus smaller bedroom for one (or 2) other/s with a double futon sofa bed.
A baby or older child is welcome - there is a small 'den' for children. However, a toddler and the stairs might not be safe, on the other hand, there is a child safety gate now. It might also be tricky for those who cannot manage stairs well. A discussion about this is encouraged.
Note that the roof inclines so that it is low at the sides of rooms but there is still full height space throughout. It includes some beautiful exposed beams but has also been modernised. The decor is simple with old and contemporary mix. There is wifi and a small TV. You can hear the occasional vehicle passing and the odd bird hopping on the roof!

Accès des voyageurs
You are welcome to cook in the kitchen (local shops/take-aways a few minutes walk), eat in the dining room or kitchen, use the garden room (inc. small library). Do use the garden itself. This has been well stocked by previous owners and is sunny, plus frog, insect and bird friendly! We also have a white squirrel and bats! It's a lovely home to lounge around in. Note: first floor is private - for friends and family only.
Breakfast is available for no extra charge - help yourselves to coffee and teas, plus a variety of juice, breads and spreads, cereals, eggs and fruit.

Autres remarques
Some mobile reception (Vodaphone) is excellent though others may need a move to another part of house (first floor or even garden) for best reception. This is to do with coverage in the village.
Wifi is now much improved.

Bottesford, Royaume-Uni

Village background: Craven House has old connections with Belvoir Castle estates, like some of the surrounding buildings and the church. What was the old Fleming hospital, developed by a 'good doctor' and the 'friendly society', is next door. There are many Grade II listed buildings in the immediate vicinity. The church is well worth a visit and offers free wifi during the day! It is elegant with its own medieval beginnings, resonant with tales of the Earls of Rutland, the ‘witches’ of the 17th century, the community’s part in the wars. The old part of the village still has long houses and a few remaining walled gardens for vegetable growing. Today, with a population around 3,500, the village is swelling fast and lively with children, schools, playing fields and skate park. There is some light industry at either end of the village, including the claypigeon factory and the stilton cheese factory. Other local produce includes cereals, rape oil, honey, Belvoir cordials and porkpies. Do ask about these.
Bottesford facilities: the village has a butchers, greengrocers, plus Co-op (7am-10pm including Sunday) and 'village store' (open very early to late; good selection of wine and ales). There are two pubs though they do not do food at weekends/evenings. There is a chippy, a Chinese and an Indian restaurant, plus the Poppy and Pizzini cafes. A bit more upmarket are 'Paul's' bistro and restaurant, The Thatch. All a short walk away. [Check for some closures on Sunday evenings/Mondays]. With transport, you can get to good pubs/restaurants all around the villages - or head to Nottingham.

Other attractions are Belvoir Castle itself, a few miles from Bottesford, with entry to the house or/and grounds (not cheap) mostly on Sunday and Monday from Easter. Look for the castle’s Gothic silhouette when approaching the village. There is Isaac Newton’s house and garden at Woolsthorpe Manor, Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, and Belton House at Grantham. [Check the postcodes of places as there are two ‘Bottesfords’, two ‘Woolsthorpes’ and two ‘Caythorpes’ – very confusing]. Of course, there are many more points of interest including life in Nottingham, the city where I grew up. Some miles drive outside the city, you can find the Dukeries, Sherwood forest, Clumber Park - the ‘Robin Hood’ territory. Rutland, the Lincolnshire Wolds and Derbyshire plus Pennines are really not that far if you wanted to travel around, and there are a number of pleasant market towns dotted about too.

In the first six months of Airbnb (to end August, 2016) guests have stayed for the following reasons: walks, the national water sports stadium and rowing, sky diving at Langar airfield, tough mudding at the castle, a number of weddings, business meetings in Grantham and Nottingham, a tour of historic buildings in the area, bell-ringing, horse trials, travelling across the Midland counties, and various London-Scotland trips...welcome all Europeans!

Joining in February 2016 and hoping to travel and use Airbnb as a guest and a host. I have always enjoyed travelling and used to live in Central and South America. For years now though, I have been involved in design education and based largely in London. Recently, I have moved to a large and comfortable home that I hope to host from. It's not too far from London, in a lively village between three counties in the Midlands. I enjoy company, walking, films, good wine and food, reading, music and am interested in green issues.

The house is sometimes occupied with one or two friends /family coming and going. I can sometimes arrange to be there at the start of your stay and will be on-hand some of the time to offer help. Please do ask. I can help with travel tips plus places to visit, whether you are with or without private transport (see also Guidebook-on-line and the files, etc. in the house).
