So your motel is a no tell and pretty scary...better call Jerry! After a disappointing motel booking, we were searching Airbnb listings at 3am, my husband said we better call Jerry, I said who is Jerry!!! We had checked into a motel a little after 1am and after four hours of tossing and turning due to some unfortunate insect issues we were out at 7am begging for an early check in so I could shower. Jerry was unbelievable, we were in early and all cleaned up ready to go check out the area. He walked us to the launch area for kayaking and pointed us to the less than 2 minute (170 steps) to the beach access, showed us the ice maker, starter beers, cooler and chairs and said he was there if we needed him, and he was.
It was a nice bright room with its own private bathroom, it is a nice little suite, but the real draw is the area. He has bikes, kayaks, chairs, towels and all the charm you could want in a host.
Just like any hard&@$ Marine, he was really just a fun, nice guy. We couldn't thank him enough, and it was hard to remember we were paying to stay. We felt less like guests and more like friends, like staying with your friends or family and buying them a nice dinner. It never felt like a transaction.
The area is great, not too close to the Surf City center, but close enough to bike or a less than a 5 minute drive to the best Americano/coffee and less than 10 minute drive to the best seafood in the area. Less than 5 miles to the center if you want to troll for cheap tees and sand in a bottle. We imagine the center during peak season would be the typical tourist beach trap, he is just close enough to enjoy a little than go back and enjoy your pretty and not overrun beach. He even supplied the cooler and ice.
