Autres remarques
There are places to visit, such as the Folk Art Museum.
Glossa is a tranquil village and the second largest settlement on Skopelos. It is a quiet place where one can find almost everything. It is on the NW part of the island and it is built on the hill above the port of Loutraki with a wonderful view. Loutraki, 3 kilometers away from Glossa is known for its beach and nice coffee shops that serve the famous loukoumades, among other things. You can also enjoy lunch or dinner by the sea.
Many have tried to explain the etymology of Glossa. Others attribute it to the tongue (Glossa) shape of the cape in the sea area of the settlement and others connect it to Knossa, the town made in this area by the first residents of the island, the Minoans. There is also a more humorous version for the name of Gloss,a as according to its residents, “by the time you have climbed all the steps in the village, your tongue reaches the floor".
Glossa –and the wider area around- is rich in springs and has many olive trees, plum trees and almond trees. Its houses, with Macedonian influences, are two-story with tile roofs and wooden balconies, whose front part is covered with iron railings.
In its alleys full of step, one will come across women with local clothes, “foustanes", and the residents maintain their traditional way of living, their customs and local dialect.
The settlement seems to have existed since ancient times and it may have been a “colony" of Cretans of the Minoan years, as traces of pre-historic housing were discovered.
The surrounding area, so much Glossa as Loutraki, presents great archaeological interest, since in many parts there are ancient towers, analemmas and buildings of various eras of the past.
At “Platana", north of Glossa, at the monastery of AgiosTaxiarchis, there are buildings in the forecourt of a paleo-christianic temple (single-roof basilica with a dome, built in 672 AD). This is the oldest temple on Skopelos.
The northern part of Glossa has wonderful beaches.
St. John, the castle, where part of Mama Mia was filmed, is also located on the north side. A place that is a must to visit, swim and enjoy coffee or food.
A car is ideal for your transports.
There are buses that will take you to the south side of the island, running at certain hours. The village is 27 kilometers from the town of Skopelos.
I will be at your disposal for any assistance needed.

The Sporades region
The (Northern) Sporades are an archipelago along the east coast of Greece, northeast of the island of Euboea, in the Aegean Sea. They consists of 24 islands, four of which are permanently inhabited: Alonnisos, Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros.
The geography of Skopelos includes two mountains over 500 m (1,640 ft); Delphi in the center of the island, and Palouki in the southeast. The island has an area of 96 square kilometres (37 sq mi). Skopelos is one of the greenest islands in the Aegean Sea. The island has a wide range of flowers, trees and shrubs. The local vegetation is chiefly made up of forests of pines and oaks, fruit trees and olive groves.
The main port and municipal center of the island (Skopelos or Chora) is situated in the bay on the northern coast. It is noted for its architectural heritage. The second largest settlement is Glossa village, situated on the northwestern tip of the island, just above Loutrakiharbour, with an elevation ranging from 200 to 300 m (656 to 984 ft). It is 25.4 km (15.8 mi) from Skopelos town. Neo Klima or "Elios" is a purpose-built village constructed after the great 1965 earthquake to resettle the displaced residents of the severely damaged village of (Old) Klima. It is situated by the coast on the west side of the island. Other settlements include Staphylos, Agnondas, Panormos, Ananias, Atheato, Loutraki, Kalogeros, and Milli.

The length of the coastline of Skopelos is 67 km (42 mi). Due to the island's mountainous terrain most of the coast is inaccessible. The following are beaches accessible by road or trail: Staphylos, Velanio (the unofficial nudism beach), Agnondas, Limnonari, Panormos, Adrines, Milia, Kastani, Elios, Hovolo, Armenopetra, Kalives, Glyfoneri, Glysteri, Perivoliou, Keramoto, Chondrogiorgos.
The main produce of the island is olives and olive oil, feta cheese from goat milk, cheese pie, honey from conifer trees, flower-honey from the nectar of fruit trees and wild flowers and oven or sun dried Blue or Red plums.

The neighborhood is very quiet, close to shops, to the beautiful central square where besides coffee you can eat cheaply and well. One of the best restaurants of the island is located in Glossa, at a walking distance from the house.
Lovers of trekking will love the beautiful nature in the early morning or in the evening before and after sunset.
