Le logement
Vestergaard is a traditional Danish farm originally built in 1870, which has kept its original structure of four buildings located around a central courtyard. Vestergaard is no longer a working farm, but is surrounded by 4 acres of peaceful gardens, carefully tended by the rooster William and his brood of hens, as well as their human servants. Magnus the cat is on rodent duty, while Lukas the Stabijhound keeps an eye on the mole population.

The guesthouse is the old pigpen and whilst the renovation has removed the smell, you can still find orginal flooring in the hallway and original arched ceilings. The guesthouse includes 3 spacious bedrooms, 2 bright and modern bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with a charming collection of traditional Danish kitchen utensils and a dining hall that can seat up to 40 guests. The dining hall is usually not included in our Airbnb rentals, so contact us if you're interested.

The garden is fenced in and includes a cottage garden, secret pathways, quiet areas, vegetable patches, an old apple yard and fruit gardens, as well as play areas for children, outdoors seating and grill facilities. The closed courtyard inlcudes a wintergarden, swings and sandbox, and is perfect for children and dogs to run loose and play.

We're often visited by travellers on their way to or from Norway as we're very close to the ferries both to Larvik, Oslo, Kristiansand, Gothenburg and more; it is only 15 minutes driving time to Hirsthals and 30 minutes to Fredrikshavn. We provide a peaceful and calm place to rest before continuing your journey onwards.

Hjørring, Nordjylland, Danemark

Vestergaard is located on the outskirts of Lørslev, just inside the village border. Lørslev is a small but socially active village of about 300 inhabitants. The village has a cafe run by volunteers, a school, kindergarten, several child minders and a new playground. Our dining hall functions much as the village's community hall and we are often host to family dinners, baptisms or other traditional celebrations and we have families coming back year after year.

Around the village you'll mostly find farmland and equestrian estates. Driving for 5 minutes will find you either at the bigger town of Tårs, or the regional "capital" Hjørring. Tårs has a grocer and hairdresser, while Hjørring has a number of shops, stores, cinema, restaurants and more.

30 minutes away you'll find attractions like Skagen, Løkken, Tversted, Faarup Sommerland, Fredrikshavn and Hirtshals.

We're a family of four, plus cat and dog, that lives on an old farm property in North Denmark, just inside the city limits of the village of Lørslev, 5 minutes from Hjørring, 3 minutes from the high way and 15-30 minutes from the ferry to Norway. The farm is from 1870 and contains the main house as well as a guest building with 3 bedrooms and a large dining hall. The buildings are surrounded by big, old gardens, with fruit trees, fields and secret hiding spots. We also have garden swings for the kids and a big, closed off court yard, a winter garden with couches, parking and various places to sit outside. We enjoy making things and love the local availability of produce. Lots of what we eat is locally farmed. We have a big vegetable garden where we grow potatoes, kale, beets and much more - all depending on season. Our meat is also as far as possible local, with local suppliers of everything from deer to pork to chicken and eggs. My husband works with local farmers as head of department at a farmers cooperative, helping them ensure their farms are efficient and sustainable. I'm director of branding at a computer hardware company providing liquid cooling solutions to gamers, enthusiasts and data centers. I'm originally Norwegian, and have lived a bit all over the world - Middle East, Tokyo, Washington DC, London and more, and moved to Denmark in 2013 when I married my Danish husband. We moved to the North of Denmark to be closer to my husband's family. We've social and love getting to know new people, but we also respect privacy if that's your thing. We help with finding local things to do, we organise BBQ evenings for friends that you're welcome to join in on, and we love being out in the garden enjoying whatever weather Denmark has to offer. We're also pretty active in our local community. The village is small, but active, with a local school, kindergarden, and a community house.
