Le logement
We are an eco-conscious permaculture project on an unknown and empty beach between Puerto Escondido and Lagunas De Chacahua, just 100 meters from the beach and right around the corner from the surf break and rustic beach restaurants. In the morning you'll only hear the birds and at night only hear the crashing waves. We are far away from the touristic zone, a place where you can inspire, relax and think immersed in nature. Perfect for getting some work done, focusing on a project or just yourself. New Ruins is an experience of a perfectly balanced world, where you consume only what you need.

New Ruins is situated on 10,000 sq. m (2.5 acres) in the hills above the ocean. We have beautiful views and incredible landscapes: huge trees, cactus and rocks. You'll have a nice beach practically all to your self. Great climbing rocks at the point and a surf break 15 mins walking. We have more than 50 fruit trees, a few of varieties you've most likely never heard of. We have vegetable and decorative gardens, beautiful outdoor shower tucked away in a rock nook, two beautiful composting toilets (one with the most incredible view of the sunrise above the cocos, beach shacks and the rocky point)

The property has multiple buildings and trails leading around to different spots. But you'll be staying in The Dome: a SuperAdobe earthen dome house, its 5 meters wide and 7 meters tall. The half a meter thick earth walls keep it very cool during the day and night. There are two queen beds, one on the first floor and one in the loft. The two spaces are separate, but slightly connected. There are ceiling and floor fans. Two couples comfortable fit.

Accès des voyageurs
The Kitchen is a separate building thats meant to be the heart of the property. Very large, indoor gardens, open air but mosquito screened. This is shared between everybody. Its fully equipped and generally speaking all the food is available to you. We expect you to bring your own specific food items. But the basics we generally have spices, oils, coffee, tea, chiles, garlic, onions, etc and aren't greedy about sharing.

Beach Equipment:
We can loan you all sorts of recreational items, including: snorkeling flippers and masks, surf and boogie boards, balls, frisbees, clown wig, fireworks, all sorts of weird stuff. Just don't break them.

Booze:
We have wine, beer and mezcal for sale. But you are also welcome to bring your own.

Beach Campfire:
Firewood is always on hand for a beach fire, enjoy few marshmallows or hotdogs. Enjoy some star gazing

Casa De Papas:
High up on the hill is an extra house that can be available if the parents aren't around. Go on up to the terrace to (literally) chill out in the afternoon. Best view on the property, great place to do yoga, read a book in a hammock or have a cocktail and chat with a friend. Multiple hammocks, hanging chairs, great breeze and ample room to spread out.

Autres remarques
Heres some things you might not like:
Its rustic, as in not a 5 star resort. Its charming and comfortable
There are some bugs that might bite you, but they are manageable and the room is bug free.
We are far from any stores. Bring any medicines, personal items or cigarettes (throw away your butts, not on the ground)
Next to the room is a beautiful bathroom to shower and a pee only toilet. But for a number 2, you have to walk half a minute to 1 of the 2 dry composting toilets that use sawdust.
The ocean isn't always safe for actual swimming, you can always play in the waves. But sometimes it give to rough to out past the break. Roca Blanca about 20 mins walking/5 mins in car is a protected bay and always safe to swim.

El Venado, Oaxaca, Mexique

El Venado is about 2 KM away and is community of coconut farmers. Therefore you'll be surrounded buy huge coconut plantations. The houses are almost completely made from different parts of the coco. There is also a turtle camp there, where they help preserve sea turtles by collecting and hatching eggs and stopping poachers. You can volunteer to help collect turtle eggs or watch a baby turtles release (when available).

On the other side of us is Roca Blanca, a small beach, visited by mostly local Mexicans. It has a surf break, rustic palapa restaurants and is great swimming and snorkeling. It is a walkable distance along the beach or a dirt road.

American with a decade living in Mexico. The founder and mastermind behind New Ruins off-the-grid permaculture project. For 7 years, my friends and I have been planning, building, creating, and planting a sustainable lifestyle on a beautiful hidden beach in Oaxaca. We are 100% solar, have our own wells which are pumped with solar energy, filter our drinking water, have many fruit trees and gardens, build with super Adobe and other sustainable construction techniques. We show people how to live in an eco-conscious way without sacrificing comfort.

Pendant votre séjour
The owner, his GF and 4 dogs live on the property in a house up on the hill. During the day he's normally programming away at something. You'll see him in the morning watering plants or taking the dogs to the beach and in the evening for sunset and dinner. You can interact with him at your comfort level.

We can help you go exploring in the area. We are perfectly situated for day trips to local attractions: hot springs, a large lagoon with glow in the dark plankton, float down a river in an innertube, waterfalls, interesting towns.

Based on topics of interest we can talk to you about lots of things: Solar power, grey water usage, long range internet installations, gardening, fruit trees, mezcal infusions, ecological construction techniques, composting toilets and of course Permaculture!
