This wee cottage was built in 1877, and was a stand-alone kitchen in her former life. Front porch was enclosed to give more interior space, and she's been fully insulated, has new working windows, french doors, and an expanded back porch. Efficiency kitchen, with hot plate, fridge/freezer, full-sized microwave. An outdoor smoker/grill and fire pit are just off the porch for outdoor cooking. Native planted gardens wrap around this cottage making it a hummingbird and butterfly haven!
If you yearn for nature and nurture, you can sit on this porch and enjoy the peaceful ranch existence morning, noon, and night. This is a photographer and painter's dream, with the only distractions being hundreds of butterfly flittering by, or hummingbird dive-bombing the many feeders and blooming plants, and maybe a donkey or two or ten dropping by to say hello, then wandering off to graze in the pasture just off the porch. If you're a hiker, take off with our map and enjoy over 14 miles of mowed trails, stopping at an occasional pond for a respite, or to sit under a tree and enjoy the sounds of nature. At night, we recommend gathering around the fire pit, laying back in the lounge chairs enjoying our dark night sky. Cook s'mores, tell ghost stories.....
for hiking, biking, birdwatching, rejuvenation and lots of open space, we welcome you to our 706 acre ranch retreat, located just 30 minutes south of historic Goliad. We can accommodate you by yourself - or a group of up to 20 using all three homes. We welcome guests to our ranch and treat them to a taste of what it's like to live in this part of the world. NATURE: Birding! Wildlife Viewing and Photography! Hiking! Biking! Fishing! Stargazing! NURTURE: Peace and tranquility abound here, and if you just need to rejuvenate, we've got rocking chairs and hammocks in the shade of old oak trees or on cool country porches. We offer a choice of 3 homes, each with its own charm and comfort - each equipped with everything you need to be secure, comfortable, and happy while here. The Maetze Home is a 3-bedroom, 3-bath home (circa 1877) which features 12' ceilings, spacious windows, long-leaf pine walls, a large and breezy front porch with view into grazing pastures full of wildlife, wildflowers, and the occasional miniature donkey (more on that later) and a fully equipped and modern kitchen. The Green Jay Cottage is a 2-bedroom, 1-bath cottage with fully equipped kitchen and lovely front porch, also with panoramic views of the countryside. The Hummingbird House is our smallest home which features a double bed, a shower in its bathroom, and a kitchenette. Need only one room? Each of these homes may be rented by the room or by the house - your choice! Each home is equipped with its own firepit and grill for outdoor cooking, as well. (Cut mesquite and oak firewood are provided). Included in our fee is access to the ranch and its 14 miles of hike and bike trails, ponds, stargazing platform, tree swings, hammocks, etc. Fresh organic garden produce is offered when our gardens are producing. SPICY FUN: Pick your own chili pectins that grow wild here, or visit our mediterranean miniature donkeys, or participate in cattle round-up. For history buffs, we are just 24 miles south of the historic town of Goliad - home of the Presidio la Bahia, one of the last remaining Spanish forts in the U.S., and the Mission Espiritu Santo, birthplace of Texas ranching at Goliad State Park. We can help you plan your day visit to the charming town built around its beautiful, restored courthouse with charming shops and great restaurants and bars. Goliad Brewing Company is a popular new addition - visit it on Friday nights or Saturdays for delicious brew and family-friendly park like atmosphere.
Guests have access to the entire ranch - 706 acres, with 14 miles of hike and bike trails, a stocked fish pond, Indian Creek, old growth oak trees, stargazing platform, and miniature donkeys...

We have a one-dog $25. per visit fee, and they must be leashed when out of doors. We do not allow smoking indoors, but do provide ashtrays under covered porches at all houses. Our motto "Come When You Can, Leave When You Must" applies almost always - but generally we ask for check-in's no earlier than 2pm and departures by 2pm.

We are a family owned and operated ranch, and my husband Wilfred Korth and I live "just around the bend" from this guest house compound. This concept of sharing the ranch with guests is a fairly new one in Texas, and we're finding it's a wonderful way to meet new and interesting people. It's also a great way to diversify income stream, because if you don't have an oil well in Texas (and we don't), it's not always easy to keep your land. Ours is a special place: we manage the ranch for wildlife, while also running a small herd of cattle and mediterranean miniature donkeys! The donkeys are gentle animals, and our guests love them most of all. On arrival to the ranch we like to give guests a quick overview of their home and a map of the ranch property. We want you to feel comfortable here, so are happy to take you on a tour of the property, then set you free to enjoy the place as if it were your own. Guests are always welcome to interact and participate in the ranch activities - help us call in the cows, brush and feed donkeys, whatever makes you happy!
