Le logement
Our home is a true New Orleans "double shotgun" style home, which means it's a duplex. We live in the left half of the house, and your private space is in the right half of the house. The furnishing is very simple, nothing fancy, but it's a nice place. The neighborhood is located on the edge of the city, near the small town of Arabi, but it's a surprisingly short drive to the more populated and exciting parts of New Orleans :)

KITCHEN: We have a fridge, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, filters, coffee, dishes, glasses, silverware, and cold filtered water in the fri. Toaster oven and microwave cooking only; there is no stove. We usually have granola bars, instant oatmeal, and a few other extras in the cupboard.

BEDS: we have one queen bed with a mattress topper and one small futon couch. We also have two electric air mattresses (one full and one twin). The air mattresses are stored deflated in the closet, but you're welcome to use them.

TV: We recently added a flat screen TV in the bedroom. It has a Google Chromecast attached, for streaming Netflix, YouTube, or Amazon Prime. There is no cable television.

NEIGHBORHOOD: This is the Lower Ninth Ward. If you're not familiar, this is the area that was most devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. We believe there's a lot of potential for greatness, and we're very happy to be a part of the rebuilding process. On first look, the neighborhood appears rough around the edges. There are boarded-up homes and overgrown vacant lots. If you can get past the way the neighborhood looks, I honestly think this is the best part of the city to stay in, because it's less populated, has less crime, and is such a short drive to everything. Plus, it gives you some unique perspective. It's honestly humbling to see the aftermath of the hurricane, even though it was 15 years ago.

We've lived here since 2016, and feel safe in our neighborhood. We've hosted 400+ happy guests, and have had no safety issues. We love it here, and chose to buy our home here to raise our family! In fact, we're putting even more roots down. We just bought the empty lot next to our house, which has expanded our backyard to one-quarter acre. If you would give our home a low rating because it's in the Lower Ninth Ward, then we ask that you please do us both a favor and stay in a different part of the city.

GUESTS: This space is designed for 1-2 guests, and instant booking is available for 1-2 guests only. This is for your comfort and ours. During our experience as AirBnB hosts, we prefer to only have 1-2 guests. However our short-term rental license allows up to 4 guests, so we sometimes make an exception. If you plan to have 3-4 guests, and are willing to cover the extra guest fee, please send a booking request. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Accès des voyageurs
This is a duplex. Your rental space is totally private from the rest of our home. You'll have your own separate entrance to five private rooms: bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, and laundry room.

Outside your back door is a semi-private backyard patio, which opens up to our big shared back yard. You're welcome to make yourselves at home and use our backyard as your own. Please feel free to enjoy our garden, and hang out with the chickens :)

Autres remarques
Pets are welcome! In fact, most of our guests are travelers with dogs, so we've provided a doggie bed and water bowl. We don't have dogs or cats ourselves, but we love them. If you need a doggie sitter while you go out and enjoy New Orleans, just ask ahead of time, and we'll be happy to watch them for you, for a small fee.

We have a flock of very friendly chickens in our backyard! They live in a fully-fenced chicken area, so you never need to worry about how your dogs might react. Most dogs really enjoy watching them, and the chickens don't seem to mind the attention. We let them out of their coop in the morning, and put them to bed at night, but they always remain inside their secure area. You're welcome to visit them through the fence and and feed them food scraps :)

My husband Evan and I bought our home in the Lower Ninth Ward in 2016 and absolutely love everything about life in New Orleans. I've been a self-employed photographer since 2009. I also host AirBnB 'experiences' for portrait walks in the French Quarter, Audubon Park, and Bywater neightborhood. You can find me online by searching for Dani Benton Photography. Evan is a massage therapist and musician. He loves to garden and quickly transformed our backyard from a slab of grass to our little tropical oasis. He tends to our flock chickens, and keeps a close eye on the cardinals nesting nearby. Together, we manage this AirBnB in our duplex, hosting guests from all over the country. We love to visit with guests, learn about their travels, and answer all their questions about New Orleans :)

We're happy to be as available as you'd like. We have so much love for this city, and we're happy to answer questions and offer suggestions of great places to visit!

We're both self-employed. Dani is a photographer and Evan is a massage therapist and musician. You'll probably see us around the house, gardening, or working. You're welcome to be social or be private. You can join us for a cup of coffee, or not, whichever you prefer.
