Quiet waterfront cabin. Seasonal pricing.

Le logement
Rustic cabin with modern amenities; right on the bank of tidal Kennebec River. Next to Swan Island Wildlife Preserve.

We are now open year-round!

Great for family gatherings and staycations.
It’s our fondest wish that this cabin provides a setting for a relaxing and refreshing gathering for your family, extended family, a few friends, or a getaway for the two of you. This is not the place for loud parties; please see our house rules.

Fish, kayak or just relax by the river and watch the eagles. There’s almost always a breeze coming in from the river, and so, relatively few bugs. You get peace & quiet; the cabin is on a dirt road, with only an occasional car driving slowly by.

CORONAVIRUS:
Please scroll to the bottom of this description to read about the precautions we are taking, as well as Maine’s current travel limitations.

INSIDE there are beds for 10, kitchen, dining table, small bathroom with shower, living room, heat pump/AC, wood pellet stove, WiFi, stereo w/Bluetooth for your music device, DVD player & DVDs, TV w/input for your streaming stick, and a large covered porch. No meals are served, although coffee & tea are provided with the Keurig. The cabin is open-concept with 2 bedrooms. A floor plan is included among our pictures.

OUTSIDE there's a campfire ring & firewood, plenty of lawn chairs, picnic table, gas grill, a big lawn with lots of both sun and shade, a swing set, hammock, space for tents, and we provide 2 canoes and 4 kayaks with life vests & gear. It's nice & quiet on a dead-end gravel road. A new public boat ramp is only 1/4 mile away for launching your boat at any tide level.

NEW FOR 2020: the cabin is now insulated and climate-controlled for year-round comfort. All newly insulated walls are finished with tongue & groove pine. New parking area.

NEW FOR 2019 is a second bedroom, and an enlarged kitchen with a full size range.

5 minutes away is Richmond with restaurants, pub, gas, stores, laundry and ice cream.
Within 30 minutes are more restaurants, shopping, attractions, and services.

Kayaking and canoeing: At low tide, there are mud flats. We can show you the best way to go around the mud; it involves some extra walking.
The tidal current is gentle and easy to overcome by paddling. Strong wind however, can create a challenge.
• Kayaks: there are two sit-in 1-adult, one sit-on 1-adult, and one sit-on youth.
• Canoes: there are two 3-person canoes.

Fishing: Upon booking, we will send you links to Maine’s fishing regs and license application, as well as the tide table for this location. Striped Bass are what most people catch.

Swimming is not ideal at the cabin. For the best swimming, there is a small public park with lakefront swimming about 20 minutes away, and two choices of ocean beaches about an hour away to the south.

There is a cleaning fee which covers laundering linens & towels’ making beds, vacuuming and sanitizing. Otherwise, we ask that you leave the cabin as you found it. After your stay, we pass the fee along to a cleaner.

Our home is next to the cabin, and we work in town weekdays at the sign shop we own.

CORONAVIRUS:

• Precautions we are taking:

We are fully compliant with Maine CDC and Airbnb protocols for COVID-19.
Between every reservation, we disinfect all frequently touched surfaces and the cabin is left unoccupied and aired out a minimum of 2 days between guests.

Certain hard-to-disinfect items have been temporarily removed from the cabin, including board games, books, magazines, pamphlets, DVDs, wicker items, and toys.
In the absence of streaming, we have about a hundred DVDs offsite for your use; upon booking or arrival, we will give you a list — you make your picks and we’ll disinfect the disks, put them in CD envelopes, and deliver them.

• How COVID-19 May affect your trip to Maine:

Residents of the following states are exempt from any quarantine or testing:
• Connecticut
• Maine
• New Hampshire
• New Jersey
• New York
• Vermont

Visitors from other states may stay at a place of lodging in Maine if they either self-quarantine after arrival in Maine OR obtain a recent negative test for COVID-19. Children under 18 do not need a test.

Several decades ago we had our house moved 14 miles south to its present location. We decided the house in front of it would become a "camp." We enjoy living by the river, and know others find it a beautiful, peaceful place also. When we aren't riverside, we are busy with our family business- Minuteman Signs, in the state capital of Augusta. We have 3 generations who work together under 1 roof there. We also spend time with our 4 grown kids and their families.
