THE SETTING: Read or watch movies in the library, gather in the sun porch, make yourself at home in the dining room, tell stories in the living room, or entertain on the terrace beside the Koi pond and waterfall.
The garden is truly serene, a pathway leads to an upper terrace, a private place to read among the songbirds. The sun porch is our favorite spot to gather. The 1/4 acre hillside front lawn is host to a variety of wildlife. Deer visit daily on their trek to their home down the slope to the Middle Oconee River and on rare occasions you may see fox, and it's common to hear the local barn owl cooing at night.

We are a 5 minute drive to Sanford Stadium, 3 minutes to the bustling 5 points center, and just a few more minutes to downtown. 1 1/2 hours from Atlanta International Airport.

HISTORY: Our mother was the first female Dean of Nursing at UVA, you will find quite a few intriguing books on healthcare in bedroom 2. Our father, Dr. Hugh Kenner, was a prolific author, UGA professor and literary critic. He was the author of 50 books and countless papers on modernist poetry and literature, many of which you will find in our library for you to enjoy.

THINGS TO DO: Check out the Flagpole magazine, and online site for the latest cultural events. The UGA events website lists a variety of events that are open to the public. Memorial Park, just a few minutes away has a zoo with bear, eagles, an otter, and other regional wildlife that has been rescued. The Georgia Museum on campus has a continually evolving collection. On the weekends, check out the J & J flea Market, the largest in Georgia. Athens also hosts 2 farmers markets. UGA Bulldogs, apparently there is a football team in town.

RESTAURANTS: [breakfast] Dondero's ( in a rustic old house, very cool place $), Mama Jewel, Mama's Boy (our favorite $), J Christoper's (a dependable chain with an awesome staff $), The Grill (24 hour old school diner $), The Farm Cart (family owned, they bake their own breads $) [dinner] Sakura (excellent sushi, and hibachi $$), Saucehouse, (very good bbq, casual $), The National (Euro-inspired cuisine), The Grit (healthy vegetarian in a hippy haven), Seabar Oyster Bar (focus on oysters, excellent seafood $$), Pulaski Heights BBQ (good food, off the beaten path in an industrial building with cool shops and theater $), Marker Seven Coastal Grill (excellent seafood $$$), Iron Factory (Korean BBQ, warm industrial space)

Athens, Géorgie, États-Unis

We are in the forested hills on west side of Athens, along the Middle Oconee River in the historic Five Points neighborhood. Down the road (corner of Lumkin St. and Milledge Ave) you will find a cozy collection of shops, casual and fine dining, a local coffee house, Fresh Market Foods, as well as a Yoga Studio and a Chocolatier.
A 5 minute drive to downtown Athens and Sanford Stadium, close to the action, yet set in a peaceful retreat around the corner and up the hill.

Pendant votre séjour
When guests arrive, our wonderful world-traveling co-host and property manager, David, often stays in our newly acquired and restored vintage camper which is nestled out of sight along the bamboo trail to the south of the property. His proximity to the property make him a valuable resource if you should have any needs during your stay and he may be reached on his cell phone at (312) 522-4831.

Otherwise, David is involved in a number of creative projects so it is likely that you will see him only when he meets you to hand off the keys and provide a brief tour of the Athens Retreat, pointing out the location and operation of the amenities, lighting and heat/air conditioning controls, etc."
