Jabu Sihol offers a unique homestay where travellers can experience local Batak culture and help empower Batak people. We have 6 twin bedrooms with private bathrooms, you can rent individually or separately. The homestay combines pleasant accommodation with the opportunity to learn more about Batak culture: such as traditional dancing, cooking, farming, fishing, weaving and language. >>The price per night per person includes breakfast + 3 cultural experiences. (Find in Maps: Jabu Sihol Marihat)

Le logement
The homestay is situated in a quiet area of Pematangsiantar, between the ricefields. You can enjoy the sounds of nature and the birds, as well as see the sunset over Mount Simbolon from the backyard. The homestay is newly constructed, since January 2019. I changed location and expanded my project. The new building provides enough privacy, as you will enjoy your own private room + bathroom. The other areas (such as the balcony, patio's and garden) are shared with other guests and visitors.

The price for one night per person includes:
- Breakfast
- Experiencing 3 traditional Batak activities of your own choice
- Unlimited WiFi
- Unlimited drinking water refill
- All day coffee and tea

CULTURAL EXPERIENCE
During your stay you can experience traditional Batak culture. Our guests are invited to learn how to do Tor Tor (Batak dancing), practice speaking Batak language, weave their own Ulos (traditional clothes), learn to cook Batak food (such as Arsik, Lappet and Mie Gomak) or go fishing in the fishpond and grill their own fish afterwards. The beauty and the history of Batak culture should be preserved; I hope that with my project I can teach travellers about our rich culture as well as find a way to preserve our traditions.

LOCATION
Pematangsiantar is quite near to Lake Toba (about 50 km) and can be travelled in about 1 hour. When visiting Lake Toba from Kuala Namu airport, you will have to pass through Pematangsiantar. However, Pematangsiantar itself is not that popular among tourists and travellers. This is why I am focusing on bringing more travellers to the town. I have been doing this since 2011, and I’ve been a professional guide to thousands of domestic and international travellers and tourists. Thankfully, all the guests were satisfied and eager to recommend me to their family and friends.

MEALS
Breakfast is included in the price and will be provided at the homestay. For all other meals guests are invited to share their wishes. Sometimes I will join my guests to eat lunch or dinner at a restaurant in the city. At other times I provide lunch or dinner at the homestay or at my family home.

Accès des voyageurs
The guests can use all public areas. The garden, the patio's, the office area, the balcony, the terrace. You are also invited to take a walk around the rice fields and take in the beautiful views and sounds.

Hi! My name is Daniel, I'm from Pematangsiantar, North Sumatera, Indonesia. Since July 2016 I started my project named Jabu Sihol. I was born and grew up in Tomok, a small town by the side of Lake Toba on Samosir Island. My desire is to introduce guests to the beauty of North Sumatra, especially Lake Toba and Pematangsiantar. I have been a professional guide to thousands of domestic and international travelers and tourists. The many experiences have enriched me more than I expected. I am now far richer in acquaintances, friends and experiences, which to me personally, are the truest riches there is.
