Le logement
Stanroph Cabin is a traditional and authentic log cabin built in 1934 from chestnut logs and 'chinking' as per the style synonymous with the Cook Forest area. The original front door is via a covered wooden porch which features a swing, tables & chairs and leads directly into the living room.

From the living room there is a hallway leading to the master bedroom and middle bathroom. The 2nd guest bedroom is accessed from the living room together with the 2-part loft sleeping area via an open wooden staircase. A second hallway leads into a utility area with closets, sink and cupboards, then into the kitchen.

The kitchen comprises of a table and chairs with a beautiful view into the forest and features various appliances including stove/oven, dish washer, washing machine, dryer, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee machine, toaster oven, popcorn maker. There is a pantry, double sink and ample worktop space. At the back of the kitchen is the rear bathroom which also contains a cupboard housing the pump & water heater.

In 1977 the cabin was extended using stone rather than logs to add a dining room, 1st guest room, and covered patio to the property. The patio includes a hot tub and natural gas grill with large adjoining deck. The side entrance is located off the patio and accesses into the dining room.

Although the cabin is primarily for vacation purposes there are tables in both the dining room and kitchen which provide ample space for using a laptop with good lighting and numerous electrical sockets in close vicinity.

Note: Both bathrooms comprise of a toilet, sink and shower.

Enjoy various wildlife close by the cabin and on the grounds including a variety of birds, herds of white-tail deer both morning & evening, possums, wild turkey and many others.

Accès des voyageurs
The entire cabin and whole 9 acres are available for use by guests including the covered grilling patio and front covered porch. There is covered seating on the porch and outside seating around the fire pit and on the grassed area near the patio.

There is a selection of books, toys and board games as well as WiFi Internet, Television, streaming TV channels, Apple TV, DVD player, music center and Wii console. Cell reception is not great in the area depending on network but the cabin is fitted with a booster to help increase what reception there is.

Note: The property also has a double garage and bunk house. Currently these are not accessible to guests.

Autres remarques
General: Cabins can typically have low door frames and ceiling heights and this one is no exception! Some of the doorways are lower than you might encounter at home so for anyone around 6 feet tall like myself please be careful not to bang your head. In time you get used to which ones are a bit lower than expected... The stairs to the loft have a low ceiling as do the two doorways and ceilings up there. Smaller children will in general not have a problem but adults or taller children may so please be careful.

Access: The cabin is located along a private road off Route 36. This road is unpaved so during Spring , Summer & Fall access is not an issue via car or motorcycle. During winter it should be noted that the road is not routinely plowed so during times of high snowfall access via AWD or 4WD vehicles is usually not a problem but motorcycles or 2WD vehicles may well encounter issues tackling the slight incline leading up to the cabin itself. Snow chains may help but are not a guaranteed solution.

Firewood: There are numerous sources of seasoned firewood available in various size bundles for purchase along Route 36. Earlier this year several trees were taken down around the cabin because they were overhanging the buildings, the logs from these are stacked in various piles as they are not yet seasoned for splitting and burning. Please feel free to gather outside firewood from the property that is on the ground but do not allow children to climb on these piles of logs.

Grounds: The cabin is located within 9 acres of forest. Please refer to the lot map at the rear of the Handbook for the layout of the grounds and avoid trespassing onto neighbors’ property which to the rear is clearly ‘posted’ with yellow signs.

Handbook: Within the cabin we have provided a handbook that contains information about the cabin, the property policies, essential contact details, How-To instructions, and some suggestions on where to go and what to do. There are also a number of leaflets covering local attractions and a guestbook with suggestions from previous guests.

Hunting: This is prohibited at Stanroph Cabin and neighboring lands. State Game Lands 283 is on the South side of Route 36 (PA-36) and is open for hunting and recreational use. Some of Cook Forest State Park is also open to hunting.

Smoking: No smoking inside the cabin but smoking is permitted outside. Please dispose of cigarette butts safely & responsibly (due to fire risk).

Taxes: Pennsylvania sales & use tax (6%) is collected by AirBnB upon booking. Jefferson County hotel tax (5%) is included in the base nightly price for bookings made prior to June 15, 2019, after that date AirBnB collect this tax.

Water: This is provided via an on-site well that goes through a 2-stage water treatment system so no need to bring bottled water.

Cook Forest State Park is a popular vacation area located in the Pennsylvania Wilds (Northwest PA) attracting people from across PA as well as neighboring States.

The main vacation time is between Memorial Day and Labor Day which is when the majority of local amenities are open.

The area is also popular at other times of the year such as holiday weekends (Spring Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year) and during the various hunting and fishing seasons.

Winter time is also a great time to escape the city and snuggle up in a log cabin in front of a roaring fire so we take bookings all year round.
