The Paddlers Retreat Bed & Breakfast overlooks the islands of Shoal Bay in the the tiny village of Tangier, along Nova Scotia’s rugged Eastern Shore. This rustic fishermans home is the oldest in the community and was built in 1860, just prior to the gold rush that made Tangier the “Klondike” of Nova Scotia. It has been tastefully renovated and maintains the character of those earlier times. Most of our guests are paddlers, either our own clients or others exploring our region on their own.

Le logement
Just offshore lies a fascinating and largely forgotten archipelago of wilderness islands. isolated outposts of beach, bog, barren and forest have retained their pristine nature, changing little since Samuel de Champlain France sailed among them in 1607, the first European to chart this rugged and indented coastline. Recently, the Nova Scotia Nature Trust has launched a campaign to preserve this unique natural heritage for future generations. Many of our guests are paddlers, either our own clients or others who come to explore the region on their own.

Autres remarques
For those with an interest in our human history the Eastern Shore is highlighted in two Nova Scotia Museum sites:
Memory Lane Heritage Village [http://heritagevillage.ca/home/index.php/home] is an award winning living history museum located 25 minutes away. It depicts coastal rural life in Nova Scotia during the 1940s, including life during and after the Second World War.

A little further a field [1 hr] Sherbrooke Village [https://sherbrookevillage.novascotia.ca] is the largest Nova Scotia Museum site. It reflects a typical Nova Scotian village from 1860 to pre-WW1 with approximately 80 buildings, over 25 of those open to the public, You can visit a traditional woodturner shop, blacksmith, pottery shop, ambrotype photography studio and printery.
