Le logement
You'll be mesmerised by the ever-changing picture beyond the Chalet’s lounge window - guests cite this as a main attraction. Many hours have been lost watching the weather & the slowly-passing crafts navigating the sea, Loch Melfort & entrance to Craobh Haven marina in the distance.

The traditional, solid Chalet was carpenter hand-built over 50 years ago and accommodates two people (and a dog!) extremely comfortably.

The warm & comfy living accommodation provides a quiet retreat for local walks, drives and sight-seeing, + a great base for visiting the many attractions up & down the coast. Whether you’re a historian, marine biologist, geologist, gardener, golfer, bird-watcher, wildlife-lover, horse-rider, hill-walker, kayaker, wild-swimmer - or simply want a break far from the madding crowd - the Chalet is perfectly located and appointed.

Entrance via 2 small steps from the off-road private parking leads thru a small hallway to
* the open plan kitchen / lounge / diner
* a shower room with loo & sink
* the bedroom with small double bed and a single, for use as a twin room no steps once through the front door.

On wintry nights, take your choice of overhead lighting or soft lamps, comfy armchairs or lounging sofa to watch the large Sony TV (FreeSat), select from many DVDs, listen to the radio, read a good book or simply gaze at the view.

Long summer days stretch into one another when the moon reflects back off the sea, revealing a stunning moonlit island seascape. Quite magical.

The compact but extremely well equipped kitchen contains a wide range of utensils, crockery and cutlery in drawers and cupboards, and toaster, coffee machine + cafetière along with a microwave on the wooden worktop. Appliances include hob with oven & grill, fridge with small top-freezer compartment, washing machine & tumble drier, sink & drainer.

From the dining table at the picture window, you’ll get to watch at close quarters the many birds visiting the feeder - only 3-feet away! If you’re very lucky (& still), you may capture one or both of our resident red squirrels as they take an early breakfast or late supper.

The bedroom’s 4ft double bed is really comfortable, tho does abut walls on 3 sides (please see the pics), so may not suit anyone approaching or over 6 foot tall. With a single bed too, this combination offers flexibility to accommodate couples or companions.

Individually-controlled panel-heaters in each room are mechanically pre-programmed to come on automatically every morning & all evening, & may also be over-ridden for your comfort.

Garden sofa + dining table & chairs, together with & bbq, make for a relaxing day or evening in fair weather..

We welcome well-behaved medium-sized dogs - although there are some additional requests here so please contact before booking to ensure we're fully aligned on those. When you arrive we’ll be happy to give you the low-down on the many areas for dog-walking based on your & your pets’ preference for distance & terrain. Sadly, we're no longer able to accept large breeds, nor slobbery or shedding dogs.

For extended family members, the adjacent Post House Cottage (see separate listing) may be booked too. Over the years, many grand-parents accompanying a family staying in the Post House Cottage have welcomed the peaceful respite afforded by the Chalet!

Où se situe le logement

Arduaine, Écosse, Royaume-Uni

There are gardens, walks, sea-scapes, hostelries, marinas, stables and heritage sights in all directions - you’ll be spoilt for choice. Details are provided in the guest book when you arrive, or contact for details in advance.

Within a short distance from Arduaine as well as further afield, many eateries serve local produce, & I'll be happy to give you the low down on where the locals eat when we meet.

There are excellent marina facilities at nearby Kilmelford, Craobh Haven and Ardfern - all within 5-10 minutes drive, plus swimming pools and golf courses at both Lochgilphead and Oban. The famous links course at Machrihanish is a must for keen golfers, albeit somewhat further afield.

Boat trips from nearby Craobh Haven traverse Shuna, Scarba and the Corryvrechan whirlpool (2nd biggest in the world). The slate islands of Seil, Easdale, and Luing can be reached within a 20-min drive & short boat-hop, with bicycle hire on the other side of the Luing ferry enabling leisurely exploration of the island. Mull and Iona can be reached in a day-trip by ferry from Oban (30-40 mins drive). Jura, Isla and other western isles are longer ferry trips and/or from further afield. Not all of Scotland’s western isles are recommended or achievable as day trips!, so if daily island-hopping is your main attraction, we recommend to check travel distances and ferry routings (via & before booking your accommodation.

For shopping:
• If arriving from the north or cross-country - our nearest 'big toon' of Oban, ~20-miles / 30-40 minutes by car, is well served by excellent Tesco, Lidl & Aldi + M&S Food stores
• If coming through/via Glasgow:
* Dumbarton is on your route & has a small retail park with a large 24-hour Asda store, a small M&S Food & also a Morrisons, as well as the cheapest fuel around.
* Inveraray (~1 hour drive from Arduaine) & Lochgilphead (~25 mins), are also on the route from the south and both have smaller Co-op stores – good for picking up frozen items (like ice-cream!)
* An excellent village store in Ardfern, ~6 miles/10 min drive, is a great supporter of local producers & it's here you'll find fresh-baked bread, cakes, pies, meat from local farms and all manner of good stuff.
* Kilmartin, 15 mins south, has a small store (as well as being home to the multi-award winning museum which is a great place to learn about the local history, geology & heritage)
* A village store in Kilmelford ~4 miles north is great for basics and also serves as a Post Office

Having travelled extensively over my entire working life, I am happy to be now based at home in Argyll. Drawn to Scotland's West Highlands in the 90's (when the profile pic was taken - on the hill behind Arduaine), the striking rugged landscapes and seascapes framed by ever-changing light, stunning sunrises & sunsets + the elusive thrill of the northern lights, were a magnet to me as a keen hill-walker and sea-kayaker - a tranquil contrast to a gruelling weekly commute & demanding work schedule. I still love to travel for pleasure albeit these days at a different pace, & invariably to connect with far-flung family & friends. At home, the immense heritage of the local area combined with the evolving and eclectic mix of people that call this thriving region home, means I'm always discovering. Now in my third decade of hosting the Arduaine Cottages' Post House & Chalet, what began as an occasional endeavour became my main focus in 2019. At home and away I always look forward to meeting travellers and other hosts, sharing laughs, tips and exploration experiences.
