Delightful garden-fronted cottage facing out on spectacular panoramic seascape views across Asknish Bay to Craobh Marina and the Inner Hebredean islands of Shuna, Scarba and Jura.

100 years as a rural Post Office, now tastefully modernised to provide comfortable accommodation for up to 4 people - with 2 bedrooms, seaward-facing lounge, large kitchen/dining room, shower room and cloakroom.

Le logement
You'll be mesmerised by the ever-changing picture beyond the cottage's lounge window, or can immerse yourselves in the landscape using the garden furniture.

The master bedroom’s king size bed looks onto the garden and seascape beyond. The other bedroom has both a double and a single bed, providing flexible sleeping arrangements for two, either as a double or twin room.

Sony TV’s with FreeSat connections in the lounge and both bedrooms deliver a variety of free-to-air channels - tho you don’t have to use them!

The lounge has two 3-seater sofas and a couple of chairs, coffee tables, large Sony TV, DVD & CD players with an assortment of discs, films & games. Oh, and did we mention the marvellous views out to sea?!

The large combined kitchen / dining room is fully equipped to an exceptionally high standard with ceramic hob, dual oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, coffee machine (+ cafetières & a percolator for aficionados), bread-maker, toaster plus extensive range of crockery, cutlery and utensils. The table seats 6 making it an ideal dining & wining hub for dual bookings with “The Chalet” (see separate listing).

The fully-tiled fully-white shower-room has an egg loo, mini-bath with powerful rain/mixer shower, large wash-basin & cabinet with plenty of room for toiletry bags. Dimmable touch-lighting enables bright white for shaving or make-up, low warm-white for relaxed bathing.

USB charging points are provided in every room. Individually controlled panel heaters, pre-programmed to come on morning & evening, may be manually overriden for comfort.

Our guests are welcome to use the barbeque (at your own risk), we just ask that you bring your own charcoals, & before checking out that you leave the bbq & tools in a clean & usable state for the next guests.

We welcome well-behaved dogs too (up to 2) - tho there are some additional requests here so please contact before booking to ensure we're aligned on those. When you arrive we’ll be happy to give you the low-down on the many areas for dog-walking based on your & your pets’ preference for distance & terrain.

When travelling with extended family, you may wish to consider dual booking with the adjacent Chalet (see Over the years, many grand-parents accompanying a young family staying in the Post House have welcomed the peaceful respite afforded by their seperate accommodation!

Où se situe le logement

Arduaine, Écosse, Royaume-Uni

There are gardens, walks, sea-scapes, hostelries, marinas, stables and heritage sights in all directions - you’ll be spoilt for choice. Details are provide in the guest book, or contact for details.

Boat trips from nearby Craobh Haven traverse Shuna, Scarba and the Corryvrechan whirlpool (2nd biggest in the world). The islands of Easdale, Seil and Luing are within easy access. Gigha, Mull and Iona can be reached in a day-trip by ferry from Oban (30-40 mins drive). Jura can be reached by passenger ferry from Tayvallich (calmac or jurapassengerferry) or by car ferry from Oban (Calmac). Isla and other western isles are longer ferry trips and/or require ferries from further afield. Not all western isles are recommended or achievable as day trips, so if visiting the islands is your main attraction, we recommend before booking your accommodation to check travel distances + ferry routings, timetables and availability.

For shopping:
• If arriving from the north or cross-country - our nearest 'big toon' of Oban, ~20-miles / 30-40 minutes by car, is well served by excellent Tesco, Lidl & Aldi + M&S Food stores
• If coming through/via Glasgow:
* Dumbarton is on your route & has a small retail park with a large 24-hour Asda store, a small M&S Food & also a Morrisons, as well as the cheapest fuel around.
* Inveraray (~1 hour drive from Arduaine) & Lochgilphead (~25 mins), are also on the route from the south and both have smaller Co-op stores – good for picking up frozen items (like ice-cream!)
* An excellent village store in Ardfern, ~6 miles/10 min drive, is a great supporter of local producers & it's here you'll find fresh-baked bread, cakes, pies, meat from local farms and all manner of good stuff.
* Kilmartin, 15 mins south, has a small store (as well as being home to the multi-award winning museum which is a great place to learn about the local history, geology & heritage)
* A village store in Kilmelford ~4 miles north is great for basics

There are eateries within a short distance from Arduaine as well as further afield. Many serve local produce, & I'll be happy to give you the low down on where the locals eat when we meet.

There are excellent marina facilities at nearby Craobh Haven, Ardfern and Kilmelford - all within 5-10 minutes drive, plus swimming pools and golf courses at both Lochgilphead and Oban. The famous links course at Machrihanish is a must for keen golfers, albeit somewhat further afield.

Having travelled extensively over my entire working life, I am happy to be now based at home in Argyll. Drawn to Scotland's West Highlands in the 90's (when the profile pic was taken - on the hill behind Arduaine), the striking rugged landscapes and seascapes framed by ever-changing light, stunning sunrises & sunsets + the elusive thrill of the northern lights, were a magnet to me as a keen hill-walker and sea-kayaker - a tranquil contrast to a gruelling weekly commute & demanding work schedule. I still love to travel for pleasure albeit these days at a different pace, & invariably to connect with far-flung family & friends. At home, the immense heritage of the local area combined with the evolving and eclectic mix of people that call this thriving region home, means I'm always discovering. Now in my third decade of hosting the Arduaine Cottages' Post House & Chalet, what began as an occasional endeavour became my main focus in 2019. At home and away I always look forward to meeting travellers and other hosts, sharing laughs, tips and exploration experiences.

Our aim is to leave you at peace to relax in your surroundings. The Post House Cottage is extremely well appointed, so you should find most things you're after by rooting around & checking the information book.

You'll probably want to know where the locals go & rate tho, & I'll be happy to give you the low-down when you arrive (safe-distanced, outside), or during your stay. If you'd like any other information or details ahead of or during your stay - please do just ask.
