Moss Cottage can be your getaway only 45 minutes from Halifax and a few kilometers from the village of Chester on Nova Scotia's beautiful south shore. It's your choice to take in the many local sights, shop in towns and villages that dot the coastline, sail, play golf or stretch out on any number of beaches -- all within easy driving.
Or, perhaps you'd prefer to stay put at Moss Cottage for a lovely chance at solitude and a dip in our crystal clear lake.

Le logement
Everything about Moss Cottage says, cozy. The kitchen has all you need to make delicious meals and, of course, like any perfect cottage, the barbecue is standing by. Moss Cottage has a pretty, queen-sized bedroom, with an air conditioner in the window if you book during those sultry summer nights.
A favourite feature Moss Cottage offers is an old cast iron tub to soak your cares away. The living room offers a chaise, comfy chairs and footrests for curling up to read or to watch a movie from a selection of over 100 DVDs .
We've tried to think of everything anyone would want when they stay at a cottage -- there's an indoor wood stove to take the spring and summer chill away, and an outdoor fire pit to round out the summer evening experience.
The upper and lower decks provide front row seats if you're a fan of watching hours of "Lake TV" -- and the decks are large enough that you can find a sunny spot or a shady spot to suit your taste.
We offer our guests the use of our old row boat which is fun to play on the lake, and, of course, there are two adult life jackets. We've got pool noodles and flutter boards to bring out the kid in you -- enticing you to jump in the lake.
Please, be our guest and have some fun!

Où se situe le logement

Chester, Nova Scotia, Canada

Moss Cottage sits on Larder Lake, accessible by a single lane road running through the woods. The two lots on either side of our cottage are empty so there is privacy and a sense of solitude and calm. There are other houses nearby, however, some used seasonally and others year round. Each neighbour is friendlier than the next but we all enjoy our privacy and respect others.
The village of Chester is just over 5 km away. (Windsor - in the other direction is more like 40 minutes drive away - at Martock there is an outdoor adventure offered all summer long.) In Chester, you can find all your immediate needs from groceries, gas, a NSLC (for beer, wine and spirits), a pharmacy, pubs and restaurants, post office and various points where you can access the internet. We even have a playhouse with a stellar reputation.
Day outings are numerous from Moss Cottage to Hubbards, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg and so many other beautiful parts further along the south shore. Head inland for a drive to Ross Farm and beginning there you will begin to appreciate a whole different beauty as you wend your way to and through Annapolis Valley.
In Moss Cottage we have collected tourist information and have other information sheets for you of our most common Q&As.

I am in my 60s and for well over 30 years now I have worked as a senior communicator, working in public relations and marketing. More than a decade ago, I made a switch and joined forces with my husband, Duncan, and together we formed a media management company. We build and populate web sites, and script, shoot and edit corporate videos for broadcast and the web as well as provide counsel on and implement internet marketing campaigns. It sounds stuffy, dry and (probably) boring but we actually have a lot of fun being creative and meeting some really fine people who are just hard working joes like us. I love to read although I'm not high brow in my selections and often choose a cozy mystery to take to my cozy cottage. We've owned Moss Cottage now for 25 years and it was a central point of happiness for our daughter and her best friends - and by extension Duncan and me. Grown women now, I can still hear them shrieking as they bombed off the dock into the lake and laughing as they roasted marshmallows on sticks they collected from the woods. We will leave our guests to themselves to enjoy their unique versions of happy times but we will take pride in the part Moss Cottage plays in those times.
