Le logement
We have created a really fun getaway right on the ocean and far enough south that you are free to do anything you like. The house has everything needed to make everyone in your group happy. Surf or go on adventures all day, knowing the rest of your friends and family will be enjoying the wonderful surroundings, decor, and amenities of the house. Wear the kids out on the 15ft trampoline and keep other family members happy with beautifully laundered sheets, soft towels, and tasteful design.

Decor:
The house has some great mid-century modern furniture pieces preserved down here in Baja since arriving from the USA in the ’60s. We have also incorporated some fun ideas picked up from holidays in beautiful Tulum in the Yucatán. Like swings in the kitchen instead of bar stools. Hammocks and swings around the fire pit.

The floors are sealed concrete so you don’t have to be precious and the beds, shelving units and smaller tables around the house are all individually designed and hand built.

Accès des voyageurs
All parts of the home are accessible to guests, as well as the beach and waves. The surf-break is friendly and rarely has everyone in the water. Surfers of any skill level are welcome in the water.

The 4x4 and motorbike trails up and down the coast are amazing. You can take any trail you see and go anywhere. There’s are river beds and open flats, massive hills, and the coast is beautiful to look at and speed along.

Autres remarques
Amenities:
All the usual conveniences of home are realized in a sustainable off grid environment at Ocean House Baja. We have both solar panels and wind turbines for electricity and run the lights on low energy LED bulbs. The electric current is stored in 12v batteries and converted to 110amp to power the energy efficient fridge and wall sockets.

We have a pressurized well for fresh water, plumbed directly into the house and a Propane tankless water heater to heat water for washing dishes and having showers. The kitchen stove and oven used for cooking are also Propane. A Spare Propane tank will be on site as well.

Bottled drinking water is provided and can be used to make fresh ice for your drinks as well.

For warmth we provide firewood and extra blankets and recommend you bring pajamas to sleep in as the winter gets cold at night.

If you need to wash clothes there’s a laundry (lavanderia) in town.

Mesa de San Jacinto, Baja California, Mexique

Overview:
This quiet stretch of ocean front has so much to offer. From the famous “Shipwrecks” surf spot with it’s super long rights, to the rocks, tide pools and the huge, decaying ship that lays in the bay. The immediate surroundings are really safe for kids with cars rarly moving around inside the gates. The locals are really friendly and the neighborhood relaxed.

Beyond the gates there’s open land which gives you a tremendous feeling of freedom. Just over the hills to the south is the local town Camalu with supermarkets, restaurants and anything else you might need. (12 miles).

The Baja 500 coastal route runs outside the gates so you can watch off-road enthusiasts having the time of their lives bombing up and down the coast.

The house is located about 15 minutes from the start of the national park where Mexico’s national observatory is located. Great for a day trip, you can see both oceans on either side of Baja from up there.

The house is 40 minutes north of San Quietin’s ancient volcanos and Oyster bay. Fishing boats from San Quietin will take you a few miles out to Isla San Martin where the fishing is world class.

The local fisherman that take boats out right in front of the house and have amazing quality fish, lobster and prices.

The house is located five miles from the 1 freeway which is a straight shot down from the US border.

There’s a popular Oaxacan market on Fridays about 25 minutes south.

More details:

Location:
Ocean House Baja is a two hour drive south of Ensenada, just north of the town Camalu. It’s down a 5 miles road towards the ocean from the 1 freeway, a straight shot down from the San Diego US border. The town of Camalu has a few super markets with everything you might need and some of the best tacos you will ever taste (Wednesday - Sunday) end of town on the right.

Surf:
The house is located on the surf break “Shipwrecks” which boasts super long right peeling waves. With a longboard you can usually surf, its best when the tide is coming in. It can be windy but your good before 10am and after 6pm. The surf break gets its name from the huge ship / freighter that ran aground in 1982. The ship has been slowly reclaimed by the ocean but has carved out the bay over the years helping to create those long rides.

On the right swell you can ride from in front of the house all the way around the bay. 3/4 mile, I’ve personally yet to get or even see a ride like that but every local surfer has their stories of when they did it and how far they got.

Fishing:
The local fishermen launch their boats in front of the ship every morning before sunrise and come back in around 10am. You can buy what they have caught if you have some cash or beers and the prices and quality are amazing. We really enjoy the commotion of the locals helping to guide the boats in past the waves and dragging them out the water and up the beach. Once the boats are out the water is when we usually ask what they have caught etc.

4x4:
The coastal route for the Baja 500 and 1000 runs a long the rear fence of the community so you can watch 4x4s, bikes and other vehicles testing their nerves on the track. Watch the pros do it if you’re staying the specific times of year the races are on.

Beach:
The community of about 42 houses is gates and has 24/7 security. The houses and camping spots are built along the ocean front with a road / path in front of them. You can stroll along looking at the ocean with a Margareta and say Hi. Everyone is super friendly and extremely happy to be by the ocean.

Stars:
At night you can see all the campfires around the bay. The moon reflecting off the waves and the bay is stunning and because of the clean dry air, lack of streetlights and massive ocean the stars and milky way are as bright as you’ll ever see them. Mexico’s national observatory is a local day trip destination up in the mountains that become snow covered in winter and named as the 4th best place on the planet to study the sky. From up there you have views over both oceans, the Pacific and Sea of Cortez, where the blue whales calve their young in the summer.
