The Lion House is a small Rasta getaway with inspiring views and healing vibes. Perched on top of 8 acres of lush bushland in the hills above Ocho Rios, we offer a window into a way of life that reconnects and rebalances. At select periods we open our sacred and beautiful space for bookings. At The Lion House you'll find simple and tasteful accommodation, places to be, beautiful food cooked with produce from our farm, a nature trail through our land and a 5 acre organic farm.

Le logement
Afrika is a twin room built directly on the rock and nestled in the rear of The Lion House. Rustic and rootsy, it is a cool and cavernous space with a calm and meditative vibe to it. The beds in Afrika can be arranged as two singles or a king bed on request. Afrika features an ensuite bathroom. It is a perfect room for budget travelling friends or parents who need an additional room for their children.
Also included in your stay is our beautiful breakfast which we prepare with produce from our farm. Cooked fresh just for you and a few other guests who may be staying at the property while you are with us, you’ll get a plate of fresh fruit, a warm main and delicious high mountain coffee or bush teas from our land, served on our dining terrace with amazing views and a cool breeze to welcome you into the day.

Accès des voyageurs
SPACES: The Lion House has a beautiful lounge and dining area with extensive views to the valley and the sea, as well as two large terraces perfect for morning yoga. The lounge is semi-outdoors, the breeze is always passing through, a great place to hang out and relax during the day and evenings.

THE GULLY: We’ve created a trail through the Gully, the 8 acres of bushland at The Lion House. The trail winds through lush land replete with fruit and pimento trees, then through the jungle at the bottom of the valley and back up to the hillside across from The Lion House, where you can see up to 20 miles of coastline. From there, our trail meets a public foot path taking you to our local spring where many in our community still collect water, wash and bathe every day. Nestled in a banana and coconut grove, it's a meditative space where you can refresh yourself on a walk before coming back up to The Lion House. The Gully is free for you to explore, but it’s worth asking us for a tour if you’d like to learn more about the plants and trees.

FARM & FOOD: Our farm is a few miles south of The Lion House between Colgate and Walkerswood. We offer tours and dinner experiences: for many people it's a grounding experience to see a farm that is manually run and based on principles of natural, organic and biodynamic farming, and to then eat from it. At The Lion House we focus on vegan food based on the Rastafarian Ital cuisine. For dinner we usually include a tour of our farm, a 3-course meal, as well as most drinks - you’re also welcome to sample from one of the finest local rum collections available in the area!

WELLNESS & HEALING: We offer massage, foot reflexology, yoga, pilates and meditation, both indoors and outside on our terraces. We offer personal training, both outdoors at The Lion House and The Gully or indoors at one of our local gyms (transport and entry included in your PT session). This can be a great way to round off your stay and turn it into a truly regenerating experience that touches all parts of your being, body, mind and soul.

Autres remarques
Please note:
- Breakfast is included in your stay
- Bar items, dinner, laundry, transport, touring, massage/spa/personal training services are charged separately
- We go to some effort to make our dinner experiences special, so we need a week’s notice if you’d like Ras Mahlon to chef up dinner for you and show you his farm.
- While the kitchen is not available for guests to use, we have a guest fridge and tea/coffee making facilities for you.
- The Lion House is a rootsy place where we focus on experiencing abundance through natural simplicity. It’s a place to unwind, ease into your natural self and be with your inner peace. We don’t have TVs, internet access is limited and we don’t have air conditioning. A little less connectivity can do wonders for your spirit, and the cool sea breeze coming up through the forests is a healing and regenerative experience that will never leave you feeling stuffy.
- The Lion House is a piece of Jamaica nestled in the natural beauty of our island. You can hear trees rustling in the wind, the humming of the bush at night, watch birds and bats chase insects (although the wind helps keep most mosquitoes away), there are chickens running around the property (who make delicious eggs), our dogs might bark at night when people walk up and down the street, and our rooster is a master at announcing the start of the new day each morning.
- We're embedded in our community. Every stone here has been laid by craftsmen living within sight of the buildings we created together. We don’t have big gates and fences, there’s a bar next door that sometimes turns up the volume when they play their favourite heart throb. On a weekend you’ll hear a party or two sounding out from across the hills, calling you to join for a drink or two. It’s Jamaica unrefined and rather than us putting up the walls that separate locals from visitors in so much of the island, we are keen for you to engage.
- It's important to us to do as much as we can to live in alignment with nature and our environment. We mostly use collected rainwater, and solar heating for hot water. We still rely on the grid for electricity, which in Jamaica is mostly generated burning fossil fuels that we need to import, and recycling is still not available locally. For these reasons we ask you to be considerate in the use of resources during your stay.

The Lion House is perched on top of lush hills with breathtaking views in the community of Breadnut Hill, situated just outside of Ocho Rios, a main town on the North Coast that is well equipped with amenities for all your needs. The Ocho Rios area is famous for its many rivers and bathing pools (blue holes), beautiful beaches, rolling hills and steep gullies. We are happy to provide you tips for lesser known beauty spots mainly frequented by locals, and can also take you there on arrangement.

The Lion House is a small Rasta getaway with exquisite views some 1500 ft above sea level. Perched on top of 8 acres of lush bushland in the hills, we offer a window into a way of life that reconnects and rebalances. Here you'll find simple and tasteful accommodation, beautiful breakfast cooked with produce from our farm, an amazing nature trail through our land for you to discover, and of course, the wonderful people who make The Lion House work every day. Just 10 minutes from Ocho Rios, we are close to all amenities of the spectacular North Coast. The Lion House is a place where people gather to explore, to transform, to rest, to meet. We offer an opportunity to relax, to find new energy, to get in tune with yourself, the people and the world around you. Many moons ago Mahlon, a young Rasta, came from high up in the hills to care-take some 10 acres of land belonging to his grandfather. In the tradition of generations of maroons before him he farmed the land, raised goats and cooked ital food for the locals. Away from the restrictions of life at home, he grew his locks and fully embraced the rasta livity. Some five years later, Lizzie happened upon this humble rasta’s business known then as Natural Vibes Corners. He shared the food that he had cooked that day (the scrapings of the pot he said!) and this was the best and sweetest food she had eaten in a long time. When her business would take her to Jamaica she would make time to visit Mahlon just to eat his food.  A few years later, now in a loving relationship, they began to build what is now the Lion House. For many years Lizzie & Mahlon lived in Scotland, first living and working in a spiritual community and then bringing some of Jamaica to Edinburgh with their creation of award-winning Coyaba, the first Jamaican restaurant in Scotland. Jamaica called them home however and in 2012 The Lion House was born. Sunday brunches, events, retreats and parties were hosted here, using fresh local produce from the farm, lovingly prepared by Mahlon and Lizzie.  Today The Lion House has seven uniquely appointed rooms, a nature trail, spectacular terraces and much more that will delight you... and we still serve up the same lovingly prepared food, still created largely with produce from Mahlon's farm. We really look forward to meeting and hosting you! One Love

Pendant votre séjour
Our team of Tanja, Mahlon, Lizzie and Oliver are here to make your stay enjoyable. We can advise you of beautiful places to visit and share some of our ways of life here in the hills. We can arrange for you to have a tour of our farm and take you on the magical journey through the gully. Simply, we are here to help!
We welcome guests from many different countries and cultures. For us it's an opportunity to share our little island of Jamaica with them and to do all we can to make their experience one filled with shining moments and positive encounters.
Jamaica is best discovered away from the big tourist attractions. The spirit of the island is with its people and our rich culture, and so it’s important that you have an opportunity to go out there, experience and get to know it. The Lion House is a great part of this journey and as always in Jamaica, where you meet good people you find more, and we will be happy to point you in their direction!
Ras Mahlon lives at The Lion House, the rest of us are there during the day and when we’re not, we’re most always available on the phone out of hours as well.
