Tywyn, our lovely self-catering cottage, stands back a little from a country road, next to our own house, about two peaceful kilometers from the bustling, picturesque village of Beddgelert. It is a haven for walkers, city escapees, romantics and seekers of tranquility and peace, a truly luxurious getaway. We have furnished and equipped it to a standard that we would be delighted to discover if we were searching for extra-special holiday accommodation.

Le logement
We have furnished it in beautiful fabrics and good artwork. Comfy settees and arm chairs round a living log fire. You have a bath tub in which you can luxuriate for a post-ramble soak, with the blissful anticipation of a snuggle in a comfy bed with soft linens under real feather-down duvets.
If the outdoors beckons, the patio has comfortable cushioned seating, a barbecue for alfresco meals and just the spot for romantic sun-downers, under a super-large sun umbrella if you wish.
When you first arrive, you will appreciate that you are truly in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, enjoying lovely mountain views from the cottage across wooded hillsides and sheep pastures. The river Glaslyn, offering salmon and trout fishing and summer swimming, flows from Snowdon, and is just a couple of hundred metres away. There is a friendly, well-stocked country store and post office in Beddgelert. You can walk from the cottage door into remote and beautiful hills or take the Sherpa minibus that serves the Snowdonia mountains and catch a ride back to your sanctuary. Great castles - Harlech, Caernarfon and Cricieth are all within thirty minutes drive. Portmeirion, the famously picturesque Italianate village designed by architect Sir Clough Williams Ellis, is a few minutes drive away. (You may be interested to learn that he was the architect who designed this cottage, Tywyn, which was built in 1947.) We offer beaches galore, cliffs, sand-dunes, sea caves, secluded coves and superb vistas, laced together by peaceful pathways, passing colourful harbours and friendly cafes to rest awhile. Bodnant Gardens, one of the most marvelous in Great Britain, will lure garden lovers. Oh, and there are good, challenging golf courses nearby, in unusually spectacular locations.

Accès des voyageurs
If you choose not to to be out and about every minute of every day, there are two colour televisions, a DVD player, chess, Monopoly, Scrabble, jigsaws, interesting books and magazines, plenty of novels and good maps and guide books to the locality (one wall is covered by a huge 1:25,000 Ordnance Survey map of the whole of North Wales!). Should you return from the hills cold or wet, then enjoy a hot shower or bath and central heating. Snuggle down in front of the open log fire with a hot drink and good music, with soft lighting from oil lamps and candles if you prefer.
The Indoor heated swimming pool, with direct access from the cottage, is for your use twelve hours a day until 9pm. We use the pool for approximately 30 minutes first thing every morning, but for the rest of the day it is exclusively for you to use. (Occasionally friends and family call and wish to swim. If this happens, we will talk to you and agree mutually suitable times for them. We do emphasise that you, our guests, will take priority.)
And finally, if you choose to dispense with cooking chores on some evenings and enjoy a meal out, there are several country pubs and restaurants close by from which to choose.

Autres remarques
A 'toy' railway steams into the hills to the biggest slate caverns in the world. And for all railway enthusiasts, more great news: the newly-reinstated line from Porthmadog to Caernarfon, passing through the stupendous Pass of Aberglaslyn, actually swoops by Tywyn cottage’s garden, allowing guests the privilege of a track-side viewpoint as it steams past.
The amazing Italianate village of Portmeirion is close by, and the sandy beaches and rocky coves of Cardigan Bay. There are ancient copper mines in the hills behind us; one, Sygun, can be entered safely with an audio guide. We have riding stables down the lane, and you can explore forgotten bridleways and woodland paths on horseback, lunching perhaps at a country pub. Or - you can sit quietly and just read or doze by a beautiful tumbling mountain stream behind the cottage.

If you decide on a change from cooking in the well-equipped kitchen, we offer impartial advice on good eating places ranging from the Best Fish & Chip Shop in Wales (really!) to special places for celebration meals. The bustling, award-winning village of Beddgelert is close by, five minutes drive or twenty five-minutes adventurous walk by the river, and offers a wide choice of eating venues catering to the thousands of visitors attracted by its beautiful location, and fame as the regularly-winning village in the Wales-in-Bloom, Britain-in-Bloom and Europe-in-Bloom competitions!

It is difficult to know where to stop. We have lived here for almost fifty years and have climbed, walked, cycled, driven, camped and barbecued just about everywhere. We know and love Snowdonia better than most. We will be delighted to share our enthusiasm and knowledge with you. If you ask.

We look forward to meeting you.

Best Wishes,

Anne and Alan Heason

If you would like to wander along the striking river bank into the picture-postcard village of Beddgelert, there you will experience happy crowds of holiday makers and share, for a while, in their exuberance; and then be happy to wander back to your peaceful retreat away from bustle and business.

Anne and I are retired, enjoying blissful freedom to travel and explore, both in this country and worldwide. We were keen rock climbers and mountaineers. For many years Alan was a guide and instructor; Anne is a notably gifted and much-respected chef. Now we enjoy hill walking and generally exploring, regularly accompanied by Blitzen, our loved-by-all Hovawart dog.. We are good-natured, friendly and easy-going and enjoy cooking, good food and wine; Alan particularly likes photography and writing, regularly producing lavishly illustrated books, each describing our adventures associated with the new places we discover. We live in a beautiful part of the world and enjoy welcoming guests to our own lovely holiday cottage. As we are hosts ourselves, you can be confident that we care for and respect whatever properties we stay in. We look forward to meeting you.
