UPDATE: We want your stay to be joyous and healthy! We clean MANIACALLY to that end. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Hidden foxes, antique hardware, claw-foot tub, huge loft, and curated antiques will delight your senses as you discover this tiny manse!

Completely different than Robin Hood’s Hideout, our Storybook cottage.

Le logement
The Gothic Victorian has been one of our most fun and intense builds yet. From the Mansard roofline, to the damask painted shiplap, to Emmett the gargoyle guarding the vintage door, every element of the design gives you the feeling of an Old World, 18th century European tiny manse! The ceilings in the Great Room soar to almost 14 feet, so you will feel like you're in a much larger space, even though this is but a wee cottage! Our ranchette is called Havenwald, which means "haven in the woods." Oaks, cedars, wildlife and starry skies stay here. Tranquility, respect and kindness stay here. Magic stays here!

Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country just 20 miles west of Austin, Havenwald is the place to get away from it all. You'll notice everything starts to slow down a bit, as the traffic and clatter of the city begin to melt away.

From the limestone-edged walking paths through the oak and cedar trees, it's almost impossible not to glimpse a gentle doe (or eight!) in the morning mist. The cottages are located on Havenwald's front acre, with plenty of space to park on our driveway. We design and build our cottages by hand, just like they did in the olden days. While just about everything you see is architectural relics saved from old houses and barns, the cottages are completely insulated, with heat and A/C. There is running water and plenty of electrical outlets and modern appliances to make your stay cozy and comfortable!
The cottage has Wifi, which you can connect your own devices to. We chose to not install TV in any of our cottages. Our guests have told us how much they love being able to disconnect from technology, and re-connect with nature, themselves and each other.

The Gothic Victorian is one of our curated art cottages, with every detail an interpretation of that era and style, blended with our own unique style. The ceiling is a combination of a vintage, embossed tin pattern, and salvaged pine shiplap. The shiplap walls give a nod to the Gothic era in shades of gray and black, and the damask pattern is reminiscent of the heavily ornamented walls of Queen Victoria's reign. The antique, beaded board wainscoting was actually milled very near to that era.

The stained glass and diamond windows have been restored and refreshed, adding velvety red, cobalt blue and emerald green light when the sun streams in.

The kitchen is large enough to prepare a meal, with a full-sized refrigerator.

And the 5 foot long, antique, cast iron claw-foot tub in the bathroom is something you almost never find in a tiny house.

Would you like to go on the fox hunt?! There are 3 hidden foxes built into the cottage. Can you spot them? You can ask for hints!

An antique piano almost 125 years old, waits in the Great Room for someone to play a haunting Bach or Beethoven movement.

Havenwald is over 6 acres of hilly terrain, the back 5 acres hike-worthy down to the wet-weather creek. Next to the bridge is a little forest thick with deer, squirrels, birds and fireflies you can explore. When you stand next to the creek and turn in a slow circle, all you will see for 360 degrees is Mother Earth, trees and the big, blue Texas sky. The sounds of vehicles, electronics and crowds are replaced with birdsong, leaves rustling in the breeze, squirrel chatter and an occasional buck snorting in the woods. If you climb the lofty bluff beyond the creek, you'll be rewarded with magnificent vistas for miles over the treetops. And on clear nights, stargazing is not to be missed at Havenwald! They own the sky, and are simply magnificent.

Où se situe le logement

Dripping Springs, Texas, États-Unis

Havenwald is up in the quiet hills, a 7 minute drive to Route 290, and about 10 minutes to downtown Dripping Springs. Dripping Springs (or "Dripping" as most locals call it!) has a large HEB grocery store, a Home Depot, a 24 hour emergency care facility, a wine and spirits shop, Goodwill, UPS store, flower shops, clothing boutiques, dry cleaners and antiques stores and gift shops. There are wineries that host tastings, distilleries and several great restaurants. Dripping Springs is also the Wedding Capitol of Texas, with 60 wedding venues in a 17 mile radius! There are also horse ranches, an olive orchard that does tours and tastings, longhorn steer and more mule deer than you can shake a stick at!

Mercer Street, the Historical Society preserved old Main Street through town, (it parallels 290) has quite an active social calendar, hosting many seasonal festivals and events, as well as lively First Thursday's. The Triangle at the intersection of Rt. 290 and Ranch Road 12 has a small farmer's market every Wednesday from 3-6 where you can sit in vintage rocking chairs and listen to live music, sample Buddha's Brew Kombucha or pick up some grass-fed bison, artisanal bagels or soap made from local goat's milk.

If you're coming to Austin for the live music, or an event like F1, SXSW or ACL, Dripping is just a short 20 minute drive on the highway to the outskirts of the city that likes to keep things "weird". In fact, the Dripping Springs town slogan is, "Just west of weird."

A little further east down Rt. 290, you'll find amazing antiques, wine tours and historic sites in Johnson City and Fredericksburg.

The sun is hot in the summer, and the creek will have icicles in the winter. (Don't worry, all the cottages have heat and AC!) The folks here are friendly, and will address you as "sir" and "ma'am". That's just the Texas way of showing respect!

I am an Artist/Builder who designs and builds magical tiny cottages out of salvaged materials! I love nature, animals, travel, music and people who are kind, silly, unique and free-thinkers. I enjoy just about any creative endeavor, and there’s pretty much no substrate I haven’t painted on! I believe in living life to the fullest, and am a participant, rather than a bystander. Fav quote—Goethe: “Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it; boldness has genius, power and magic in it.”

Pendant votre séjour

Since we live on the property at Havenwald, we're nearby should you need anything. Other than introducing you to the cottage when you arrive, we leave you to enjoy the Gothic Victorian and your stay at Havenwald in privacy. However, if you'd like to learn more about building with salvage, or tiny houses, or just want to come hangout, you are most welcome! If you see us out working on the property, feel free to come over and chat if you'd like. But we won't intrude or be offended if you want to keep to yourself. And by the way, we do NOT expect you to clean, strip the beds, empty the trash or do anything when you leave; we take care of all of that. This is YOUR time to enjoy, relax, recharge and get away from it all! We say "Magic stays here" because we want your stay to be YOUR version of "magic," and we hope you'll find a bit of the magic we feel here at Havenwald!
