Le logement
We always hope that our guests will love Il Mulino as we do. We fell in love with it on day one and are still in love 17 years later.
We have trodden with enormous care to enhance - and not suffocate - the intrinsic character of the 500 year old origins of the ex-watermill. Comfy corners beckon outside and in, to read, relax, listen to music or birdsong and the river. The garden - under my very loving care - is romantic and informal and the salt water pool surrounded by lawn fits into this natural setting. Marco looks after the vegetable garden. Beyond the swimming pool for the more adventurous, there is rough access down to the waterfall on the river.
We offer accommodation to only a few guests - 6 at the maximum - not because there is not sufficient room but because we like everyone to feel the special atmosphere. To this end usually if we have four family members or four friends booking together we don't accept other reservations which means that it is pretty much exclusive.
Wake up to the sound of birdsong and the trickling of the river which runs through the garden. Enjoy a leisurely home-made breakfast - eggs from our neighbour's hens, vegetables from our field, home-made bread and jam, in the charming hay-loft. We live in the house so we are around to help and to ensure that you feel totally pampered without interruptions. You will love Marco's hand-drawn maps to help you with exploring the treasure of the local terrain.
Our small award winning restuarant on the property offers charm, huge log fire, and Tuscan food lovingly prepared bu us using natural local ingredients.

Accès des voyageurs
If you feel at home we know the magic of Il Mulino has worked! Inside or out our guests are free to make themselves at home in most of the house. We won't interrupt you - except with a glass of wine, or to light the candles or the log fire.
The first floor sitting room has beamed ceiling, log fire, books and more books, WIFI access (the house has big thick walls which affects the signal i nother rooms).
The hayloft (accessed internally from the second sitting room) is a semi enclosed room originally used to dry hay, which now is ridiculously romantic for dining in the evening to candle light or taking breakfast to the sound of the river.
The millroom with it's ages old long refectory table and flagstone floor is perfect when you want to escape from the summer sun to sample wine and eat casually as it's naturally cool all the year round and perfect for storing our older wines, my conserves and vegetables from the garden.
The main dining room on the ground floor is part of a large kitchen-diner. The 2 metre Carrara marble table is the heart of the kitchen and is almost always is use for rolling pasta, kneeding bread dough and preparing tempting dishes. The second table in this room is for dining and can seat 12 people comfortably.
You are welcome to use the laundry room on the ground floor.

Autres remarques
Two laid-back and friendly little Maltese terriers are very much part of our family and ready to welcome guests. We also have a fat cat.
The house is on 3 floors - all the bedrooms are on the top floor, sitting rooms on the 2nd floor and the rest on the ground floor. The is one low step at the front door to the entrance room.
Please note that a "tourist tax" is payable direct. Don't worry it's only 0.50 centesimo per person per night

Almost 20 years ago Marco and I spent 18 months searching for an unspoilt Tuscan country house in a location which had to be within easy distance of a train station offering a 15 minute service into Florence and access toother Renaiassance art and cultural centres such as Arezzo. It had to be on the doorstep of Chianti but in more natural countryside for walking and trekking, to seem isolated but be within walking distance of a real market town community and a good cappuccino.
Within the distance of about 15km the landscape changes dramatically depending on the direction one sets out in. From the beautiful perfection of the Chianti wine territory, to the 1000 metre high forests of Vallombrosa, and another 400 metres above this, the crest of the start of the Appenine mountain range with its breathtakingly beautiful views and fantastic trekking. Over to the lesser explored Casentino area with its forests and castles and beautiful mountain valley villages. We're situated on Italy's oldest Roman Road "The Road of the Seven Bridges" which winds its beautiful curves through the olive groves and vineyards, eventually to one of my favourite Tuscan towns - Arezzo - but there are so many little villages along the way each of which has something really special to offer - a mountain gorge, a Roman bridge, a painting by Masaccio, two of Italy's classified "Most Beautiful Villages", an artisan cheese or break maker just to name a few, walks in the chestnut wooded hills up to tiny eagles nests of villages with a hidden away family run trattoria. We had to have a market town for all conveniences and great cappuccinos. Reggello is recognized as the "città dell'olio" for the quality of the olive oil which comes from the surrounding olive groves which make the landscape so restful, mingled as they are with vineyards, the pinnacled cypresses, patchwork cultivation of vegetables, of iris.
There is so much romance and beauty, history and art and the unexpected in this landscape that I love and never tire of. I always say to people used to driving hundreds of kilomentres to see one sight, that to get the most of this area and Tuscany in general, one needs to think small distances because at every corner and every curve there is something to stop to watch or explore or taste.

17 years ago I came to Tuscany from London, fell in love with the food, the amazing seasonal ingredients, the night of the shooting stars, the nightingales...and my future husband. Marco is Florentine from a family whose roots go way back over 500 years to the time of the Medici's. Our home and lifestyle reflect our passion for home-made food and natural ingredients, for traditional values, nature, art and antiques, books, music, walking and a romantic nostalgia for "once upon a time". Our house motto is "Cucinare è Voler Bene" - "To Cook is To Love" found when we first came to the house, in a 17th century domestic text. We've made of our home a place for the soul and there's nothing nicer for us than letting others experience it. There are inviting corners inside and out for whatever weather, to read, write, paint, enjoy music or just the sound of the birdsong and the river which runs alongside the garden. Nature around the house is a constant source of delight to me - from the arrival of the nightingales in the Spring, to the fireflies in early summer shimmering in the warm dark nights transforming the river bank into a giant christmas tree. My approach to the garden is to help it to be romatic and natural. When our guests relax into a favourite corner, we pop along with a glass of wine and samples of what's been cooking around the kitchen table. We love to cook and to give our guests the experience of real Tuscan home-made food. There's always something simmering or being rolled on the huge marble table which is my joy for pasta and bread making. Our passion for natural ingredients and genuine Tuscan cooking, and our constant frustration with disappointing 'eating out' experiences, led 5 years ago to us opening a small and very intimate restaurant. We're delighted to have received many awards which reflect these specific values.

We live in this wonderful old house all the year round so we are here to help and to ensure that you feel totally pampered without being intruded upon. We'll pop along with a glass of wine and samples of what's been cooking in the kitchen, when you're relaxing at the pool, or ensure there is a log fire roaring when the weather is a little cooler. We're in the background if you need us or wish to chat about the area and what to visit.
