Stylish one bedroom apartment off Flowergate in the heart of wonderful, bustling Whitby. Professionally designed to provide comfortable, high quality accommodation for two people. At the end of the yard so private and peaceful, a few steps from shops, cafes and some fabulous traditional pubs. Lovingly converted, the apartment is the ground floor of our four storey period home with its own entrance, high ceilings and south facing first floor terrace overlooking the garden and rooftops.

Down one of Whitby's many old alleyways in the centre of the town, the apartment is the ground floor of a characterful, period home and at around 50 square meters is very spacious. Designed to a high level of comfort with a mix of modern, mid century and antique furnishings, good quality linens and contemporary lighting. Your own front door leads into the open plan kitchen dining area with fridge freezer, ceramic hob, microwave combination oven, kettle, toaster and antique wooden dining table and chairs. Off the kitchen is a shower room with walk-in, thermostat shower; towels and bath products are provided, including lovely soap hand made in Whitby. Through to the spacious bedroom with king bed, comfy chairs, coffee table, smart TV and generous clothes storage. French doors lead onto the first floor terrace with table and chairs. The balcony is south facing and overlooks our garden with views across the rooftops to the town and glimpses of the harbour, a perfect place for dining and a glass or two.
Tea and biscuits from the local baker is a welcome treat on arrival. I also provide locally baked bread, butter, marmalade, coffee, hot chocolate, milk and cereals.
If you have a carry cot you are welcome to bring your baby. Calm dogs only please are welcome.
PARKING
Parking in Whitby is on street and at peak times can be at a premium. Longer stay parking is at least 5-10 minutes walk from the apartment, however, it is possible to park close to the apartment on Flowergate or thereabouts while you unload (1 hour maximum).
Much of Whitby is a parking zone which means you must set a parking disc that I provide. Depending on where you are in the town, parking will be limited to one or three hours with a parking disc.
There is free, long stay parking November - March on the West Cliff in the pay and display zone, you will see the parking meters covered up, and in the leisure centre car park, post code YO21 3HT.
From April to October parking permits are included for the full days of your stay, subject to availability as they are strictly controlled by the council. The permits are scratchcards and are valid in the W parking zone which are the residential streets directly outside the town centre. Look for streets such as John St, Havelock Terrace, and Royal Crescent on Maps or satnav. One scratchcard is valid for one day until 10.00 am the following day.
Additionally, in the W zone you are allowed 3 hours free parking by setting the parking disc. Parking restrictions end at 7pm therefore if you park in the W zone after 4pm, set the parking disc to take you through to the next day. When checking out at 10am, you can set the disc to give you an additional 3 hours free parking.
All of this information is clearly set out on the on-street parking signs and on the scratchcards.
There are a number of pay and display car parks.
If you arrive earlier than 3pm you are welcome to drop off your things and pick up a parking disc.

CAFES AND BARS:
Many of my favourite places are just a few steps from the apartment. Sherlock's 1940s style coffee house serves a delicious cream tea and is great value. Java a bit further down Flowergate is very popular and does great coffee and breakfasts. The Elsinor is the smallest pub in the world with great ambience, live music at the weekends and folk night on a Tuesday. The Little Angel is another proper pub and a great live music venue. The Arch and Abbey on Skinner Street is more contemporary and more conducive to conversation, serving local ales, gin and very nice wines at reasonable prices. The Endeavour across the swing bridge on Church Street is a wonderful pub with live music, Sunday afternoons are particularly lively.
RESTAURANTS:
The Marine Restaurant down by the harbour serves an unrivalled fish pie and has good value early supper fish and chips (currently closed after lockdown but we are hoping it will re-open soon. Harry's Bar serves the best Margaritas outside Havana and its tapas style menu is very well presented.
Along cobbled Church Street, The Blitz also serves tapas style food and is excellent value. Albert's Eatery is more pricey though is worth a visit to dine in the beautifully restored old chapel and jet museum.
Back on Flowergate, The Resolution is a relaxing place for a drink and supper among the tropical fish. Sunday lunch is buffet style and at £10 is recommended. You will need to book well in advance for dinner at Madamoiselles on Skinner Street, you will see why. It's the number one restaurant in the town according to Tripadvisor, knocking Ditto, also on Skinner Street, off the top spot. I can't comment on Ditto as we were never able to get a table!

Loving Whitby, you will too, guaranteed! Our house is in the centre of this lively coastal town, just a few steps from some fabulous bars and restaurants, the harbour and the beach. We've spent three years lovingly restoring our four storey period property though there has always been time for cocktails in Harry's Bar and Yorkshire cream teas in Sherlock's.
