Lone Bear Cabin (renovated in 2017) has a stunning view of Massanutten Mountain,a fireplace, a hot tub and river access. Comfort is key. BBQ on the patio or take one of the kayaks to one of the neighborhood's river access points. Relax in the 600 Gallon hot tub after fishing in one of the nearby river access points. We enjoy having breakfast on the kitchen table while looking at the mountain views. They never get old!
Please read below for our COVID-19 Update

Le logement
COVID-19 Update: Page County is easing short-term rental restrictions on May 15th, 2020.

COVID-19 Policy: We continue to provide the same detailed cleaning before stays that we've always provided prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. Page County requires us to follow the CDC Guidelines for Cleaning And Disinfecting Your Home and the AirBnB Cleaning guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
We have a professional cleaning company that does all of our cleanings and follows the county mandated guidelines. They wipe down all of the surfaces, all of the remotes and they clean the floors. They use Clorox Shower Cleaner on the showers, lysol germ cleaner on surfaces and they wipe down areas that guests touch such as remotes with clorox wipes. Additionally, we perform water tests on the hot tub before and after each stay.

Also, if you require flexibility, please reach out to us before you book

Lone Bear Cabin features 3 bedrooms with queen beds, 2 full baths; mountain views, river access through the HOA. There's a futon in the basement which we count as the 4th bedroom. This bed/futon is probably best for a child or young adult. The home is located in a private secluded neighborhood surrounded by the Shenandoah River-South Fork. Comfortable beds, huge deck, magnificent hot tub, well-stocked kitchen, large living area, separate dining area adjacent to the kitchen, stainless appliances, fireplace (operational Oct 1 - Apr 30), gas and charcoal grill, fire pit, hiking trails, fishing, boating.

****************************NOTE: This is not a party house or a flat rate rental. Only guests on the contract or cleared through owner are permitted on the property at any time. Please ask before booking if you intend to have extra guests (not on the contract) during the day. We will likely decline all requests for more than 4 extra day guests.*******************************************

*****HOT TUB*****
We have a 600 gallon Sundance Maxxus Hot Tub which retails for 20K, comfortably fits 8 and is the best consumer hot tub on the market. We empty and refill the hot tub every six to eight weeks. We fill our hot tub with filtered and treated water that is delivered by truck to our house. Additionally, we test, shock, clean and treat the water in the hot tub before each stay.

If the hot tub is integral to your stay, we highly recommend an optional $50/day add on for us to stop by to test, shock, clean and treat the water every day. Otherwise, we will only guarantee that it will be clean for the first night.

Note you wouldn't need this for your first or last day as we test, shock, clean and treat the water before and after each stay (i.e. a 4 day, 3 night stay would need 2 cleaning trips). We will also provide one free visit to stop by to test, shock, clean and treat the water for stays of 5 nights or longer.

The Sundance Maxxus Hot Tub has a great filtration system that with a couple of tablets will keep the hot tub crystal clear for weeks with occasional use by couples without the shocking, cleaning and treating. However, if you have a group of 4 or more or you are using this multiple times during your stay, the hot tub will get dirty without these daily cleanings. We are providing this service at cost as a convenience for our guests that value the hot tub as part of the stay and will use the hot tub often. Groups of 4 or more staying 3 days or longer that use the hot tub often would benefit most from this service.

**********FAQ**********
Do we need a 4x4?
You only need to take one mile of relatively flat gravel road from the main highway. My 2007 Ford Focus has no problem with these roads.

Can we bring our well behaved pet?
We don’t even let our friends bring their pets. Also, there are those with allergies that value a pet free home.

Can we bring our children?
Our home and our property outside the home is not child proof and there is a hot tub outside. Those are our main concerns. You know your child best and can make the decision if an isolated mountain home is right for you and your children

Can you empty and refill the hot tub before/during our stay?
We don’t feel that this is necessary as we maintain the hot tub enough to keep it clean and sanitary. Additionally, we clean and empty the hot tub every six to eight weeks. However, for $250, we can arrange for the water truck to stop by to empty and fill the hot tub during your stay

Do you have an outlet for hybrid cars?
We have standard outdoor outlets that we can turn on for an additional $20/night

Can we have an early check-in/check-out?
Note that early check-out cannot be guaranteed until 48 hours before check-in/check-out. If there are no guests the night before or after we always grant an early check-in/late check-out. Otherwise, we need to strictly adhere to a check-out time if 11am/check-in time of 4pm to allow for a thorough cleaning.

Accès des voyageurs
Guests have access to two boat launches on the river within the community. The first boat launch is .9 miles away and the other boat launch is 1.2 miles away. The boat launches are on opposite sides of a horseshoe shaped bend in the river. It’s about 3 miles or a three hour trip from one boat launch to the other should you want an extended trip. Alternatively you could stick around one of the boat launches for a shorter trip.

There are also several nearby outfitters for guided trips of varying lengths. We can also recommend several nearby hikes in Shenandoah National Park.

We have a fully stocked kitchen with plenty of utensils, cups, pots, plates, silverware, glasses and dish ware.

Autres remarques
***INTERNET***
We have the fastest WiFi possible in the area (3Mbps) but it may not be like it is at home for you. It's only fast enough to stream one device at a time. We've also noticed while living here for two months during social distancing that this works well for two people on zoom for work meetings about 70% of the time. Cell phone and the house phone work well for the other 30% for dialing into zoom meetings. Large files needed to be uploaded or downloaded at night files as a 1-2 GB would take 8 hours to download. Hulu or Netflix would pause once or twice during a two hour movie. Email, google docs, remote desktop and the web worked fine. It was workable for us as an architect and a software developer for two months but the internet is not our biggest selling point :)

Additionally, if you have a mobile hotspot through AT&T or T-Mobile you can get a good 15-20MBps through your hotspot.

**PHONE**
AT&T gets an LTE connection most of the time here. Guests have reported that Sprint and T-Mobile also gets a good connection. Verizon does not get a good connection here. We do have a landline with free calling anywhere in the US.

**OTHER**
Sheets, bath towels and large beach towels for the hot tub are provided.

The property uses both a well and a septic system. We enjoy drinking fresh water out of the well and we have a state of the art well filtration system. However, those that are particular about their water may want to bring their own water.

The Shenandoah area has over 50 species of mammals that also call the Shenandoah Valley Home. We have bears, raccoons, deer, rabbits and a variety of birds. Please do not leave food outside or in your car to decrease the chance of extra visitors. We have a Bearicuda (animal proof) trash can outside for trash storage.

We plan at some point to add a security system with a door bell camera to provide extra security for our guests. The doorbell camera can be deactivated before your stay upon request.

The place is close enough to both Luray and Front Royal to make a journey into town in under twenty minutes. Castle Vineyards is ten minutes away and Hawksville Brewery is a short drive into Luray.

The HOA gives you access to two points on the horseshoe shaped river. The access points are .9 miles and 1.2 miles away respectively. This is perfect for kayaking or canoeing. We have two kayaks and a canoe on the property. We also have three fishing poles but we do not provide any lures.

We are close to Shenandoah National Park. The trailhead for the Heiskell Hollow Trail is ten minutes by car. This trial connects to the Over Run Loop Trail which takes you to Over Run Falls. Over Run Falls is 92 feet tall and is the largest waterfalls in Shenandoah National Park

I live in a tiny one bedroom condo in Reston and we own a vacation home out in the Shenandoah. Lone Bear Cabin is our oasis when I'm not otherwise traveling for work or hosting guests. Pre-COVID, I would travel 110+ days per year for work. I have the top tier status with several hotel chains. The top tier status has led to some over the top accommodations at hotels. I try to bring that same top tier status experience to guests at our cabin
