Tête Jaune Cache, Colombie Britannique, Canada

Tete Jaune Cache has a rich history, originated from a Iroquois Metis nicknamed "Tete Jaune" (Yellowhead) because of his light colored hair, he was a trapper and guide. An historical kiosk is situated at the community hall on Blackman Road. A quiet rural community with services nearby. Unique historical sites to visit. If you drive 15 minutes east on Highway 16 is the Mount Robson Provincial Park and Protected Area established in 1913 and designated as part of the Canadian Rocky Mountains World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1990. Mount Robson is the tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies and is where the world famous Berg Lake Trail back country trail camping is located. A lovely 2 and 1/2 hour return hike to Kinney Lake (part of the Berg Lake Trail) is a must do. Stop by at the Mount Robson Visitor Centre for trail and other updates. There are numerous hiking trails, waterfalls to explore as well as opportunities in the Robson Valley for outdoor recreation: rafting, horse back riding, hiking, ATV rides, biking, and fishing. A 45 minute drive on Hwy 16 to the west is the lovely town of McBride, there is a Heritage Train Station that houses an awesome coffee and eatery, Whistle Stop Gallery (Local Artists Works) and Visitor Information Center, Valley Museum and Archives is a must see and in another hour further west the Ancient Forest with 1000 year old cedar trees!
The closest village is Valemount a 15 minute drive south on Hwy 5 with the Rocky Mountains to the east the Cariboo Mountains to the west and to the south the beginning of the Monashee Mountains with the spectacular Canoe Mountain and for groceries and amenities such as the Swiss bakery, Gathering Tree coffee shop and eatery, Cariboo Grill for dinner, grocery and drugstore, Health Centre, Gas stations, local 3 Ranges Brewery, local artists gallery, Valemount Visitor Centre, George Hicks Park (salmon spawning viewing area in mid to late August), Cranberry Marsh for animal, bird watching and walking. Many other services are available in Valemount a small community of approximately 500-1000 people.
Of course the Mighty Fraser River one kilometer walk from our cabin. In mid-August the Chinook Salmon spawn after swimming over 800 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. It is awesome to watch their journey as they leap over Rearguard Falls a 5 minute drive east on hwy 16, and a 30 minute return hike down to the river and back.
Relax, unplug and enjoy!
