A stone’s throw from the Joshua Tree monument, our home is approximately 10 miles to the 29 Palms entrance to the park. (This entrance has significantly less congestion and wait time than the J.T. park entrance.) The oldest rocks in Joshua Tree National Park are 1.4 to 1.7 billion-year old metamorphic rocks. These are the original rocks that the magmatic intrusions traveled up through, heating and altering the surrounding rocks as the hot material migrated. We’re also 15 min from JTree proper.

Le logement
This 6 acre property was established in 1937, a few years after the jack rabbit homestead act. The original owner was named H.G.Sherman and the Sherman highlands were named after him. There are majestic trails within 1/2 mile vicinity of the property like the 49 Palms Canyon hike and Indian Cove, (rocks that developed from a volcanic eruption millions of years ago and were formed from water and wind). The interior of the property itself has been rebuilt from its origins with the utmost attention to detail, originality and comfort. The entire cabin from the hard wood floors to the doors have been custom built and the door handles harvested from the surrounding creosote branches, one of the desert’s oldest living organisms, dating back 11,000 years. These Creosote bushes have been discovered to be a clonal colony which is a group of genetically identical plants that grew from a single original plant. These plants are often considered to be the same living organism.
New plumbing has been implemented to provide powerful water pressure with unlimited hot water in a deep claw foot tub, (an incredible healing additive after a long hike) and the original low ceiling adobe style has been gutted to expose exquisite high ceilings dating back to wood grown in the 1800’s. Our kitchen is equipped with new appliances: a refrigerator/small freezer, gas stove, toaster oven, coffee pot, dishes and utensils. We provide freshly ground coffee from Joshua Tree coffee company, along with tea, hot chocolate, regular and sparkling water, oatmeal, pancake mix, butter and syrup. From every window are gorgeous views that look out into Indian Cove and the mountains of the Joshua Tree monument. You cannot get closer to the Milky Way galaxy from this vantage point, and due to the less-inhabited spaces in this particular part of the desert, there is less light pollution hence many more stars to view. We have one bedroom with a luxurious tuft and needle bed, high thread count Egyptian sheets, a smart tv providing Netflix and streaming, along with a very eclectic library, record collection and original art. There is a living room with an equally comfortable queen futon/ couch bed. There is a fire pit outside (to be used anytime other than fire season) with surrounding chairs, two hammocks and a charcoal cooking grill. We have a hot tub with beautiful views of Queen mountain, the northern tip of Joshua Tree national park, and Indian cove. We leave a 26 hour window in between each guest so that we can drain and clean our hot tub/ filter/pipes and refill with fresh water, eliminating the need for harsh chemicals, using the barest amount of chlorine.

This space is the ideal location for any journey, internal or external. The hosts live on this acreage as well and although you will have plenty of privacy, should you need anything at all, we are here to help; whether it is hiking tips, restaurants, or venues to visit, we know it all and would love to share our knowledge. You can also peruse our guidebook for suggestions.

Où se situe le logement

Twentynine Palms, Californie, États-Unis

We live on the western outskirts of 29 Palms which borders Joshua Tree (about 5 miles east of the Joshua Tree border). Our home is easy to get to and it’s on a paved road so whether you are driving a pick up truck or a luxury vehicle, you should have no problem. The speed limits are 25 mph. and the few cross streets near our home are dirt roads with speed limits of 10 mph. Uphill traffic always has the right of way (it’s an old unwritten law). There is very little traffic here, as there are few homes in the Sherman highlands.
