Où se situe le logement

Madrid, Comunidad de Madrid, Espagne

The apartement is located in the heart of Madrid, between La latina and the Austrias Neighbourhood
The narrow and winding streets of this irregularly laid-out area, mostly dating back to the Middle Ages, usually lead onto a square. Most of them lay outside the Medieval walled village and provided accommodation to a great many merchants who sold their goods at the market. This commercial tradition still echoes in several street and square names, such as Plaza de la Cebada (Barley Square), where the farmers’ market used to be held, Plaza de los Carros (Carriage Square), Plaza de la Paja (Straw Square), or even El Rastro (owing its name to the blood trail of the old slaughterhouse), the city’s best-known flea market.
Plaza Mayor, La Encarnación Monastery and Plaza de la Villa, with buildings erected in the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries – Casa de la Villa (formerly, Madrid City Hall), Los Lujanes Tower, Cisneros House –, are the main architectural complexes built under the Hapsburgs. Another must-see landmark is the Descalzas Reales Monastery, a nunnery that was the royal seat of Charles I of Spain
The Bourbons traised the Royal Palace. Nearby Plaza de Oriente, La Almudena Cathedral, and Other buildings from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries. Some of these sights are the Collegiate Church of San Isidro (Madrid’s cathedral until 1993), the Basilica of San Miguel, the Basilica of San Francisco el Grande, one of Europe’s largest domes . It houses works by Zurbarán and Goya and the Teatro Real opera house.
After visiting the area’s entire monumental heritage, you can take a stroll through the clipped hedges of the Sabatini Gardens, at the feet of the northern façade of the Royal Palace. Campo del Moro Park must not be forgotten.
Dating back to the Middle Ages, El Rastro (Spanish word for ‘trail’) owes its name to the trail left by the cattle hides dragged from the nearby slaughterhouse along Ribera de Curtidores to the tanneries that used to line up this steep street.
The most famous antique shops, like Manuel Riestra or Galerías Piquer, are located in this neighborhood. You can also find plenty of shops specialized in vintage and retro decoration like Reno, La Brocanterie, Living Retro, La Recova Vintage, The Point or Antigüedades Palacio.
On Sunday and holiday mornings the streets turn into street markets where you can buy all sorts of products ranging from new and used clothes, jewelry, trinkets and knick-knacks to items from auction houses, old CDs and many more.
The San Miguel Market is a major culinary attraction in Hapsburg Madrid. With an iron and glass structure from 1916, the market sells fruit, fish, bread, tapas and sweets at some 30 individual stalls.
Taste the traditional ‘bocata de calamares’ (calamari rings in batter served between bread) which is so typical of Madrid; and century-old cafeterias, such as San Ginés –specialised in chocolate served with “churros”. the eldest restautrant, fourhundred years old Casa Botín, famous for its stew, If you want to take away a sweet souvenir, visit the Las Carboneras Convent.-
La Latina’s dining scene means one thing above all: tapas. This centrally located neighbourhood is a magnet to locals and tourists alike, who happily come here to have their fix of bite-size Spanish food. you can choose from a wealth of different recipes of mouth-watering croquettes or go for Madrid’s classics: deep-fried squid, grilled pig’s ear, patatas bravas (cubes of potato in spicy tomato sauce) or boquerones (anchovies) in vinegar.,
A great deal of hotspots for dining out are to be found in this area, especially on Sundays and holidays, when El Rastro is open. The Cava Alta and Cava Baja streets, which used to be home to inns and guest houses,
La Perejila, María la Lía, Delic, La Musa, El Almendro, Juana la Loca, Tapioca, Posada de la Villa, Los huevos de Lucio, La Antoñíta or El Sainete are just a few of the establishments you should not miss on your tapeo tour in La Latina on Sunday or any other day of the week.
Ans visit the Mercado de la Cebada on Saturday , not glamour but cheap and quality food
Calles Mayor and Arenal offer more modern shops, whereas the arches of the Plaza Mayor and the narrow adjacent streets house businesses offering religious artefacts, stamps and coins, such as Monedas Plaza Mayor, - in fact the square holds a coin fair every Sunday morning as well as public holidays – or needlework ,such as the one hundred year old Almacenes Pontejos. Likewise, Casa Hernanz has been selling traditional footwear in Spain: espadrilles since 1840 in the same establishment in Calle Toledo.
