Over 1,200 square feet in an iconic Mid-Century Modern Rummer home including the living and dining rooms, the luxuriously appointed master bedroom suite and master bath, and the media room/second bedroom with a sleeper sofa.

Le logement
In the 1960s and '70s local builder Robert Rummer constructed over seven-hundred of these beautiful houses in and around the Portland area. Referred to by locals as "Rummers" these homes are reminiscent of Joseph Eichler's Mid-Century Modern architectural design featuring giant floor-to-ceiling windows, post and beam construction, soaring ceilings and enclosed atriums.

The front doors of the house lead into an indoor atrium which is the only "shared" space in the house. An entrance off of the atrium opens into the airbnb living room. A separate door leads to our (your host's) side of the house.

The living room is filled with comfortable seating, warm lighting, and features a wood-burning fireplace. Soaring floor-to-ceiling windows open the room to the atrium on one side and a mature stand of Doug fir on the other. Outside an ipe wood deck opens to Taliesen Park and the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District's neighborhood trail system.

The airbnb dining room houses a kitchenette with a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, small refrigerator/freezer, plates, cups, wine glasses, utensils, water and other kitchen basics for our airbnb guests. (Please note there is no sink in the kitchenette, but we will keep your dishes clean during your stay.)

The master bedroom is both sleek and luxurious. The two sides of the "split" king memory-foam bed are fully adjustable so you can raise and lower the head and foot of the mattress at the touch of a button (try the "Zero G" setting!) and features a wonderfully relaxing massage feature. The bed faces an electric fireplace, a TV with Netflix access, and sliding glass doors opening to a private outdoor patio. It's so comfortable you may never want to get out of bed.

The master bath features a step-down Roman-tiled shower with five shower-heads looking out onto a peaceful enclosure of black bamboo. (You may never want to get out of the shower either.)

The "media room" (the second bedroom) has a Pavia Sleeper sofa and features HDTV, surround sound, Blu-ray player and access to on-demand movies via Netflix. (Please note there is no cable.)

We want your stay with us to be as comfortable and enjoyable as possible so if you need something please just let us know!

Note about the house layout:

The main front door to the house opens into an indoor atrium which is the only "shared" space in the house. In the atrium there are two sets of doors: the large double glass doors (shown in the listing photo) open into the airbnb living room and another separate door leads into our wing of the house. Much like a duplex, the airbnb listing is completely independent from the hosts' wing and is separated by two locked doors; we will not enter the airbnb space unless invited.

Special Requests:

Need a meeting or event space? This house is a beautiful, comfortable venue. The main living area will comfortably accommodate a business meeting of up to eight people (both in the living room and sitting at the dining room table), or a social event of up to fifteen people. In addition to standard room rates, $100 will be charged per day for meetings of more than four, and $250 will be charged for events with up to fifteen adults. (Notes: ~We ask that events be adults-only. ~Events and meetings must be between the hours of 7:00 am and 10:00 pm. ~The only available bathroom is accessed through the master bedroom.)

We hope you will be pleasantly surprised by all of the little extras we provide - please be sure to let us know if you have any special requests!

Accès des voyageurs
The main entrance to the house is accessed via keyless entry and leads into the centrally located atrium. The airbnb space is then accessed through doors opening off of the atrium into the living room. (Your host will also pass through the atrium to access the door leading to their wing of the house and for occasional atrium maintenance and feeding the Koi each morning. Other than the atrium the airbnb space is totally separate and independent from the hosts' space.)

Autres remarques
Please note that because of the in-ground koi pond we're only able to accommodate children 6+ years old.

While the master bedroom suite and it's outdoor patio are completely private, there are no window coverings in the living and dining rooms. This reflects the open concept design common to this style of architecture, "bringing the outdoors in." As a result you may see us pass through the atrium and notice the occasional neighbor walking their dog through Taliesen Park which adjoins our property. The back yard is amply lit at night, however, both for ambiance and your peace of mind.

Please note that the master bath, the only bathroom in the space, can only be accessed by passing through the master bedroom.

Additionally, there is no bathtub in the master bathroom, as is generally the case with Roman showers.

The kitchenette is not a full kitchen; it does not have a cook-top or running water. There is, however, a small fridge, a toaster oven, a microwave, an electric hot water kettle and plenty of bottled water.

We don't have cable TV, but there is free Netflix access, and the Apple TVs will mirror streamed content fro your iPhone.

This house does not have a landline so don't forget to pack your mobile phone! :-)

Beaverton, Oregon, États-Unis

This house is located just a 5-minute drive from Hwy. 217; 20-30-minutes from Downtown Portland; a 20-minute drive from Nike and Intel.

Nearby shopping includes Washington Square Mall and Bridgeport Village, both within a 15-minute drive.

Beaverton itself has several good restaurants we'd be happy to refer you to. There are several nearby parks connected by jogging/biking trails in our neighborhood (we have a trail system map).

THINGS TO DO AND SEE DURING YOUR VISIT

In the Portland area we would recommend checking out OMSI, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry - plenty to keep adults and kids entertained for a day; Powell's City of Books - arguably the best bookstore in the U.S.; the Portland Japanese Garden - beautiful any time of year; Portland Farmer's Market (and Beaverton Farmer's Market) - huge Saturday farmer's markets with live music and fun for the whole family; the Portland Zoo - a top-notch zoo with train rides and a summer concert series; and the Portland Art Museum - look online for upcoming exhibits. Then there are also a lot of fun neighborhoods to explore (Hawthorne, Pearl District, Mississippi Ave.), great shopping and the area is home to some of the best restaurants on the West Coast.

Love the outdoors? The Pacific Northwest draws outdoor enthusiasts from around the world, and for good reason.

There are beautiful parks all up and down the Oregon Coast (just an hour and a half away) that have hiking trails both at sea level and up into the bluffs overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean. The famous Oregon sea stacks can be seen at Cape Kiwanda and Cannon Beach. The small coast towns of Seaside, Manzanita and Rockaway Beach are all an easy drive. There's interpretive centers, lighthouses and historic destinations to see up and down the coast. And at the Tillamook Cheese factory you can actually watch them making and packing the tons of cheese we all know and love.

The mountains are only one and a half hours to the East. Of course there are also many wonderful hiking trails and some amazing waterfalls along the way. Timberline Lodge, on Mt. Hood, is also a must see. The views - and the lodge itself - are wonderful. The Magic Mile Chair lift (what they call the ski lift when there's not enough snow for skiing) takes you up the side of the mountain then you can hike back down. It's beautiful!

The Cascade locks, in the Columbia Gorge, are also fun to visit and we recommend visiting the Sturgeon interpretive center with it's underwater viewing area.

To the North is the Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument with several new interpretive centers and caves (lava tubes, called Ape Caves) you can actually hike through.

To the South we love the Silver Falls State park - they have a really nice interpretive center and if you're willing to hike some steep trails waterfalls you can walk behind. The Oregon Garden is also nearby and has acres of beautiful gardens and trails to walk around (or they have a trolley you can ride).

The Evergreen Space and Aviation museum is an hour SW and totally worth the trip - it is incredible and houses the actual Spruce Goose. Also, if you like waterparks, the next-door Evergreen Wings & Waves Waterpark is an indoor, all-season educational waterpark that includes ten waterslides (ranging from slides for the little ones to slides for daredevils), a wave pool and a hands-on museum dedicated to teaching students about the power of water. Slide out of a real Boeing 747 aircraft sitting on the roof.

We have a lot of pamphlets for visitor activities once you arrive, but of course the internet is a great resource for finding things to do – just do a web search on any of the places listed above for more information.

In 2008 we moved to Portland from Bainbridge Island, Washington (you may have seen us in the Bainbridge Island "House Hunters" episode several years back!) to be closer to family. At the time we were concerned that we would not be able to find a home as wonderful as our contemporary, open floor plan Bainbridge house that sat on two beautiful aces of towering cedars and lush ferns. Our "wish" list for a new house included lots of windows, territorial views, an open floor plan and plenty of living space. We didn't know what a "Rummer" was at the time but a listing photo of the atrium piqued our interest. When we walked in with our real estate agent it was love at first sight! We now enjoy sharing this amazing house with Airbnb travelers who want to experience a true Northwest design classic. We have a gregarious 9-year-old son (and a truly unflappable tabby cat) and we all live happily together in the north wing of the house. Please come visit us - we'd love to meet you!
