2 bedroom, 1 loft, 1 bath cabin, nestled in the charming mountain village of Rawley Springs, a short walk to George Washington National Forest and miles of hiking trails. Surrounded by woodlands, the cabin is perfect for those seeking a respite in nature and a tranquil retreat from which to explore the Shenandoah Valley. The interior, setup for 2-5, is stylish and comfortable. Fully equipped kitchen. Great play/sleeping loft for kids, Hi-speed internet/Netflix. Picnic table, firepit and grill.

Le logement
Our cabin was built in the 1950's in the beautiful mountain village of Rawley Springs (also inhabited by large red plumbed pileated woodpeckers, the woods echoing with sound of their distinctive laughing calls). We live about a half mile down the road and have had a great time totally remodeling the cabin as our second AIRBNB. The cabin is very comfortable with just about everything refurbished, including upgraded heating and air conditioning, appliances and fixtures. Please honor our strict "no pets" house rule. Here are some some details about the space:

Sleeping: The master bedroom has a queen-size bed. The smaller bedroom has a two-level (bunk) bed with a full-size mattress on the lower level and a twin on the upper level. The full on the bottom is suitable for two adults. The top bunk is, of course, difficult to make and we do not ask our housekeeper, who is getting on in years, to make it. We provide the bedclothes if you wish to make it, or you may wish to bring a sleeping bag instead of going to the trouble. The low-ceiling carpeted loft is also suitable for kids to sleep if you bring sleeping bags

Kitchen: The fully-equipped kitchen has a stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave oven, toaster, and Keurig coffee maker. Customary kitchen, cooking and dining utensils and tableware are present. Pretty much anything you might need unless you have some unusual culinary dishes in mind. All appliances are new. There may be some basic spices and staples around (you can count on tea, coffee pods, sugar, salt, pepper etc.) but no food is provided.

Living room/Dining area: The living room features two comfortable sofas, an internet connected tv with Netflix/Amazon Prime, and basic network channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS). The dining area is set up for up to 4 guests. There is also a low ceilinged loft area that is great as a play room/sleeping area for kids. No food or drink is allowed in the carpeted loft.

Bathroom: The bathroom has an old cast iron tub with shower and all new fixtures.

Picnic table/Firepit: In the grassy clearing behind the cabin and facing the woods is a picnic table. You can hand food out of the kitchen window to the picnic table. There is also a gas grill in this area which you are free to use - just clean it for the next guest.
There is also a stone firepit and four chairs. You are free to burn whatever cut wood is in piles around the property at no charge,. You may also gather any wood that is already on the ground from the woods behind the cabin if the weather has been dry. There are boxes of kindling (scrap lumber) in the barn - as a courtesy to other guests please use this to START the fire, not as firewood. Our experience is that guests often forget to cover the woodpile and it gets wet, so if you know you want a high-quality fire we advise you to bring your own wood.

The loft:
The loft is a great playroom for kids but the ceiling is a too low for adults. Please do not allow kids to eat or drink in the carpeted loft, but otherwise, they will have a great time in their own space away from the adults. It will be fun for kids to sleep in the loft if you bring your own sleeping bags for them.

The barn: If you go into the barn for kindling for the firepit please be sure to latch the barn door properly and prevent kids from entering and playing with the dangerous tools. There is also a battery charger in case your car battery is dead.

Où se situe le logement

Hinton, Virginie, États-Unis

HISTORY: In the mid 1800's Rawley Springs was a destination resort with three large hotels, a bandstand, and even an outdoor bowling ally. People took the train from New York, Baltimore and Washington to "take the waters" as a medicinal from the many springs which are high in minerals. The hotels burned down (twice) and later, beginning in the 1920's, locals from Harrisonburg began building the cabins and cottages you see in the village today, many of which have been in the same families for generations. Some of the cabins are full-time residences and others are retreats for town-folk in Harrisonburg who appreciate the natural beauty and restorative powers of being surrounded by trees, streams and mountains.

THE PROPERTY: You have the entire property to yourself. If you wish to have a campfire there is scrap lumber in the barn that you can use to start the fire, and you are free to use whatever firewood you find stacked or lying about. You may wish to bring some good dry and split firewood or a couple starter logs to get things going. The grill is propane not charcoal. Propane is provided. Feel free to wander around the charming neighborhood of cottages and cabins, (taking care not to trespass onto other's property). In the spring everything is blooming and green, summer is 10 degrees cooler due to our higher elevation on Shenandoah Mountain, and in the fall the leaves come into full color. Winter has its own charms when you will want to stay warm and read a book or take a brisk hike. Rawley Springs is an enchanting forest retreat from a busy world!

Swadee ka! This is the Thai way of greeting guests and friends when you meet them. I am pleased to share with you this place in magical Rawley Springs, where I live with my American husband. I am a JMU grad in nursing and have lived in this country for 10 years. Moving from a frenetic city like Bangkok to this environment, filled with the overflowing spirit of nature, is a delight to me. I often travel back to Thailand to visit friends and family, but have loved traveling in this country, and seeing many of its special places, which gave me the idea to do AIRBNB myself. My wish? - To live in harmony and compassion with people and the planet. I welcome persons from any race, religion or country to enjoy this special place. Omi.

Pendant votre séjour

We invite our guests to access the cabin on their own. At the time of booking we will send you the code for the door keypad. We will likely not meet you during your stay, but we are usually available if you need us. I (Omi) work as a surgical nurse, so I might not be able to get back to you immediately, but I will as soon as I am able. You are our guest, and so the signs that say "Owners and Guests Only" on the road into the area mean that you are most welcome. Please respect the rights of others in the Rawley Springs area by not trespassing onto their property and you will find that Rawley Springs folks are as friendly as you will ever meet.
