Reconnect with nature at this unforgettable rural retreat. Wake up to bird song on our little family-run nut orchard, take in the incredible views, explore the banks of the nearby river Taw and drift off to sleep under starry skies at night.

Cosy, light and beautifully crafted, the Shepherdess hut has a comfortable double bed, a seating area and kitchenette with gas stove, fridge and sink. There are power points and USB ports to charge laptop and phones.

Le logement
The cosy shepherdess hut is nestled into the hillside with breath-taking views of the Taw Valley and surrounding farms. Here you can spend hours under vast open skies watching sheep on the hillside, cows in the meadows and an impressive array of bird life including barn owls, kestrels and buzzards hunting over our fields. We are in a designated ‘dark zone’ so on clear nights you can stargaze and see the Milky Way.

The river Taw is easily accessed a couple of hundred meters walk from our bottom gate. In summer the river is fairly shallow and great for paddling and skimming stones, fishing permits can be purchased locally.

Umberleigh is a pretty rural village with its own train station (connecting with Barnstaple and Exeter), and a lovely pub - the Rising Sun- which serves fab food Wednesday - Saturday nights.
The Pig and Olive pop up pizza van is a must on Wednesday evenings.

The beautiful sandy beaches of Saunton Sands and Westward Ho! are easily accessible (30 minutes drive).

The pretty market towns of South Molton and Barnstaple are each about 15 mins drive where you will find supermarkets, independent shops and more.

We look forward to welcoming you to our two romantic hill-top wagons on our family-run nut farm in North Devon. We have two young free range children, a little dog who loves people, egg laying chickens and a cockerel. I love to meet new people and hear about their hometowns, where they’ve been and where they are going and we love to talk about what we are doing on the land and share our plans for the future. I love a river or sea swim, would like to get good at paddle boarding, and find some time to pick up a paint brush. As a traveller, I am a clean respectful guest who will treat your home as if it were my own. I've travelled a fair bit with stops across Europe, Asia, Australia and America, I grew up in London, moved to Bristol and now live in North Devon.

Pendant votre séjour

Your friendly hosts, Antonia and Rob, live with their young family and work on the nut orchard and carpentry workshop on-site, so are on hand to answer any questions you might have about the local area.

It is a working site and machinery is sometimes in use in the day, but always within sociable hours and we will try to avoid using them at all when guests are hanging out at the camp facilities.

Antonia will be more than happy to introduce you and your children to our chickens.

A well behaved dog may be permitted if cleared in advance (some restrictions apply- there is only room for one small- medium dog in the hut).

We request that dogs are kept on leads at all times because we have chickens, our own dog and are surrounded by farms with livestock.
