I have never had a bad Airbnb review in all the years we have been hosting people at our home (please read our extensive reviews) so it is with very heavy heart that I read what Mireille has said about me and our home. We don't expect to please everyone but we certainly make every effort to help people feel at home, especially if they are traveling from another county. Other than making a booking request, of the 6 efforts I made to communicate with Mireille via the Airbnb website she only responded to one and that was to tell me she had an internet connection problem. Even though I asked her a number of times while she was here to please tell me if there were any problems, Mireille did not convey any information that might have helped me to address her concerns. Mireille arrived early, which made me think she did not account for the time change. Our daughter kindly invited her in and I arrived shortly thereafter, never making an issue of her early arrival. The house is marked as are all others in this historic East Nashville neighborhood, with a number on the exterior wall next to the door. Other markings are not allowed. One window does open in the room and we would have gladly pointed this out if Mireille had expressed a desire for fresh air or difficulty opening the window- other guests have had not problem with it and I just tested it and it worked fine. There is no history in the Airbnb site that Mireille asked for information about places to stay or entertainment options. I always promptly respond to all inquiries so possibly she made en error in my email address, because I did not receive any inquiry from her. In fact, one of our favorite things to do is direct people to places of interest, if they ask. The second floor bathroom is the one used by guests because it has a shower (rather than the tub on the ground floor) and also the ground floor bathroom is used by everyone coming to the house so we like our guests to use the more private upstairs bathroom. We invite our guests to go and come from our home as they wish. We do not wait up for guests, especially because they enjoy staying out beyond our bedtime. We all go about our business but happily engage when our paths cross. As noted in our Airbnb profile, the city of Nashville prohibits Airbnb sites to prepare or serve food to our guests, unlike traditional bed and breakfast locations. We do like to offer coffee or tea, if a guest is interested, to get their day started. Serving of breakfast is clearly not allowed and the offer to share some of what I had baked was a gift, but not a promise. Most guests rave about my baking, but I don't expect everyone to be pleased. Again, Mireille may not have fully read our listing and therefore had unfair expectations. We do our best to keep our pets quiet and most people (again read our reviews) love our dog and cat - they absolutely adore our guests- but we appreciate that they annoyed Mireille and for this we are sorry. Soap is provided in the bathroom upstairs- it is an all natural Dr. Bronners soap in a dispenser next to the sink. I am a very early riser and was outside in my garden when Mireille arose. I left a note to this effect so that I would not disturb her prior to her getting up. We offer maps, hand drawn and printed, along with copious directions and suggestions. But we always ask what the guest wants and do not presume that they do not have a GPS, smart phone or visitors handbook to guide them. The funniest part of this review is the part that says, "No charm, it is like a subdivision. Far from the center and located down a long avenue." We are 19 blocks from downtown in one of the very first bungalow houses built at the turn of the previous century in an inner city historic neighborhood. We have only raised our fee once, by $5 because we love people and we want those who might otherwise not be able to visit our city, because of the cost, to be able to enjoy themselves and feel at home with us when they are here. So the extra income is not the thing that drives us to host people from all over the world and across the United States. It is unfortunate that Mireille did not have a pleasant experience with us. This review is almost like it is written about someone else, at another home, out in the suburbs. What is clear is that Mireille had expectations that were not met. We are sorry that she did not express them more clearly to us in advance, especially since in my 4th effort to communicate with Mireille via the Airbnb website I said, "We are happy to host you, Mireille. Please let me know how we can help your stay be as comfortable and enjoyable as possible." It is a shame this did not happen so that we could have better accommodated Mireille's needs and clarified any misunderstandings, in advance or at the time they occurred. Michele
