Le logement
Homely, relaxing and calm; perfect whether you are staying overnight or for longer. We aim to make this space a home-from-home.

Your room is a spacious and light bedroom, with a very comfortable double bed and high-quality Egyptian cotton bed linens and towels.

It has a double wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a bedside table and lamp, which doubles as a USB port. The room has a television with a Freeview connection, providing access to Freeview and 35 premium television channels and a host of radio stations. The house has a Sky Fibre connection.

There's a bookcase with a range of travel books, allowing you dip into and explore far away places, all of which we've visited and are always happy to talk about!

We'll happily place a selection of teas in your room, and flasks of cold milk and hot water; tea, coffee and chilled water are always available in the kitchen. In your room, you'll also find some biscuits and we can provide other snacks, if required. If we've been baking, you'll also have the option of homemade biscuits or cakes!

The room will accommodate two people.

Please note the additional cleaning charges for longer stays:
If you are staying for more than four nights (or multiples of four nights), we will change your towels after each fourth night. On each occasion, there is a charge of £5 for this service.
If you are staying for more than seven nights (or multiples of seven nights), we will provide you with fresh bed linen (but not clean the room) on each eighth day. On each occasion, there is a charge of £5 for this.
If you are staying for more than two weeks (or multiples of fourteen nights), we will clean your room every fifteenth day. You will need to vacate the room for a minimum of six hours to allow us to do this. The purpose is to allow the room to be properly ventilated before we come in to clean. The cleaning fee on each of these occasions will be £30.00.
Please note that you cannot opt out of any of these facilities, and the fees must be paid on the day that the service is provided, or you can on arrival (by bank transfer) and receive a 10% discount on these charges.

Downstairs, the space is contemporary and stylish, with the large living kitchen overlooking the house's glorious tree-lined garden. In the kitchen you'll find a water and ice dispenser, and the facilities to make tea and coffee at any time. The room also has a large dining table, sofa and 55" TV which is connected to Sky.

The lovely garden, which adjoins the lane up to the village church, is perfect to relax in after or before a long day. We'll happily serve breakfast, lunch or dinner in the garden, if the weather permits; or just wander outside with a book and enjoy the peace and quiet. There are different relaxation areas around the garden, including sun loungers.

The sitting room provides a quiet and, usually, dog free space to relax in. We have plenty of books, CDs and DVDs, most of which can be found on the extensive book shelves of the sitting room. Please feel free to browse and read, listen to or watch them during your stay. During the period of the pandemic, it may be necessary for us to close off this room or, if you use the space, to carefully wipe down and sanitise anything that you touch. There is a TV in the sitting room, which also has a Sky Connection, with Sky TV bundles.

We have two dogs who are both very friendly and great fun. One is a Cardigan Corgi (an indigenous and increasingly rare, only 94 were born in 2013, Welsh breed) and the other a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. They do not have free run of the house.

During the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, this facility is withdrawn: We are very happy to have other dogs (but no other animals) come to stay but please note that:
(1) We can only host one medium-sized dog at any time.
(2) The dog cannot sleep in your room and must bed down with our dogs (otherwise we'd be breaking the rules that we set our dogs).
(3) You must bring with you their bed, food bowl and food.
(4) There is a charge of £7.50 per night and a cleaning fee of a minimum of £40 if there is any sort of accident!
(5) We would prefer it if you arrived early enough for us to be able to take the dogs out for a walk together, so that they can get to know one another a little before moving into our dogs' territory.
(6) We reserve the right to ask you to leave if your dog is aggressive (rather than playful).

Please note that we have a second room listed on airbnb, our larger double with an en-suite bathroom, so you may be staying with us when other people are in the house.

This facility is currently withdrawn because of the Coronavirus: With this room, we are also able to accommodate another couple of people on the exceptionally comfortable king size sofa bed, in our sitting room. We will only take bookings for the sofa bed with bookings for this room, as you will share access to the bathroom.

Accès des voyageurs
You have sole access to your spacious double bedroom and the adjoining bathroom, [This option is currently withdrawn: unless you are also booking the sofa bed in the sitting room, in which case you will share the bathroom.]

Refreshments - an extensive range of teas, coffee and chilled water - are available in the kitchen throughout the day. If you are lucky, we may also be offering a freshly baked cake or biscuits alongside an afternoon tea. Please come and help yourself! [During the COVID-19 pandemic period, all refreshments will be served.]

Meals - are served in the living kitchen or, if the weather is good, can be served in the garden. Most evenings you can also enjoy the peace and quiet of our relaxing sitting room, with access to our eclectic collection of books, CDs and DVDs. The room also has its own television.

Please note that food must neither be consumed nor stored in the bedrooms. Breach of this rule will mean an additional £10.00 charge.

If you want to bring a takeaway or ready-meal in, there is a charge of £3.00 per meal per person, which includes use of the microwave/oven to reheat the meal. [For hygiene reasons, this facility is withdrawn during the COVID-19 pandemic: Use of the kitchen, other than for making tea or coffee or microwaving meals, is not included in the price. If you want to use the kitchen to cook, there is a charge of £5.00 at lunch or dinner time, £2.00 at breakfast or a daily fee of £10.00. You can still ask us to cook a meal for you. For hygiene reasons, the meal will be served separately.]

Out of bounds - The study area of the sitting room, the first-floor studio and our bedroom are not open to guests, and the other guest room. The sitting room will be unavailable when the study is being used for Andrew's work, so most weekday mornings and afternoons, and some evenings.

Autres remarques
We ask you to remember that we're not running a bed and breakfast! This is a home-stay offer, so it is our home and we're doing this because we like to meet people from a diversity of backgrounds. We've travelled widely, so we're very at ease with other cultures.

Whilst we are happy to cook for you and to do some laundry for you, we don't simply let others use the kitchen or laundry room. It's primarily a fire/health and safety issue that we are keen to avoid. Even though this is "home-stay", it is still covered by various bits of government legislation. Please see the notes above on Guest Access.

The village is quiet and quintessentially English, with a charming parish church and some wonderful local walks. Within an hour's travel time, we have the joys of London, Cambridge, Milton Keynes and Northampton. We are equidistant from the M1 and A1.

The local pub, The Cock, is under new management serves food, currently on most days of the week. It is within easy walking distance. The neighbouring villages - Oakley, Felmersham, Carlton, and Stevington - all have excellent pubs that serve food. Slightly further afield, in Harrold and Sharnbrook, you will find very good Indian restaurants. Bedford itself has a cosmopolitan range of restaurants, a particular strength is Italian food, reflecting the large proportion of the population of Italian heritage. Proportionately, Bedford has the largest Italian-heritage population in the UK.

British-Chilean couple both working in the creative sector, one around economic development, the other around graphics, photography, illustration and the sale of contemporary visual arts. Neither of us smoke and we drink very much in moderation; when we do, we enjoy sparkling and fine wines, and the occasional malt whisky. We both enjoy trying different cuisines; current (and some enduring) favourites are French, Italian, Lebanese, and Thai. We both love to cook and bake, and we enjoy eating healthily, so there are plenty of pulses, legumes and salads on the menu. We tend to use Natvia, a natural sugar substitute, for baking, so our cakes and biscuits are sweet but without the health challenges presented by sugar! Andrew has an extensive collection of books - fiction and non-fiction - which you'll find in the sitting room and dotted around the house. If you are with us for a few days, we're happy for you to take one of the shelf, settle down and have a good read. Similarly there's an eclectic selection of DVDs and CDs, just waiting for you to play! We enjoy walking with our dogs. The north Bedfordshire countryside is a hidden English gem, easily missed on the journeys north on the A1 and M1, and we're enjoying getting to know it better. We travel a lot with work; Andrew has worked with both the British Council and the United Nations, spending time in countries as diverse as Colombia, Indonesia, Lebanon, Tanzania and Vietnam. He also lived for a time in India. When we travel we are always looking for homes away from home as we both love to cook and to be as comfortable as possible, without too much fuss! Endless nights in a hotel can be pretty soul destroying. Clean spaces, with a comfortable bed and good bed linens, are a must. Ideally with a quiet space to work. High-speed wifi is also essential as we keep in contact with our work and families by (Hidden by Airbnb) ! We also appreciate how important these things are when people come to stay with us, so we aim to have a clean and tidy house, which has quiet spaces, comfortable beds, adequate storage, and a reliable internet connection! We also aim to provide really tasty food.

We work from home, so we're around in the house most of the time, normally in our respective studio and office spaces. So we're normally on hand to answer questions.

We're happy to serve one of our signature breakfasts or a delicious home-cooked seasonal dinner, just ask for the options and let us know what you want the day before! Alternately, the local pub, The Cock, serves food on most days and is within walking distance (we can provide a torch as street lighting is limited), and there are three other excellent pubs, offering food, within 2km, in neighbouring villages.

Otherwise, we won't seek to impose ourselves on you!

Please note that we have a second room listed on airbnb, our larger double with an en-suite bathroom, so you may be staying with us when other people are in the house. For health security reasons, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are only accepting one set of guests, at any one time, unless they are in the same shielding bubble.
