“What i like most about this must-see in Barcelona is the exhibition they have in the underground of the cathedral with the models Gaudí created to build it During the summer is necessary to book it in advance if you want to go in, if not it would be almost impossible to get a ticket for the day”

“Surely "the" museum to visit in Barcelona. For the artist and for the building. Imagine Montcada Street, in the Gothic quarter, five mansions united to form a museum, lovely to visit. About Pablo Ruiz Picasso the museum is essential to understand his formative years. The genius of the young artist is revealed to us through more than 3,500 works that make up this permanent collection.”

“It is one of the buildings that are famous in Barcelona with its funny exterior. A tip is to go up a street and take a left and enter the big hardware store. On the first floor there is a small terrace and from there you can see the back of the building for free. ”

Musée d'art
“Meier embraced the difficult task of creating a building that would ultimately display a variety of contemporary artworks that were unknown to him at the time of design. The choice to build the museum in the Plaça dels Ángels is consistent with Meier’s vision to situate the building amongst some of Barcelona’s oldest streets and buildings, in addition to revamping the public space of the Raval. After the completion of the $35 million construction, local media referred to the museum as “the pearl” amongst the old architecture and narrow streets just a few blocks from Gothic center of Barcelona. The building’s architectural style has strong references to Modernism. The large (120 by 35 meters) white building has much of its southern elevation glazed, providing the visitor with views across the plaza, and allowing for an abundance of natural light to illuminate the interior galleries. The museum has three main galleries, which can be subdivided, as well as five smaller galleries, one of which is in a tower. Collection The permanent collection of around 5,000 works(up from 1,100 works at the time of the museum's opening in 1995) dates from the mid-20th century onward. There are three periods of modern art represented: the first one covers the forties to the sixties; the second spans the sixties and seventies; the third period is contemporary. The collections focus on post-1945 Catalan and Spanish art, although some International artists are also represented”

Église
“The Cathedral of Santa Creu i Santa Eulàlia observes the passing of time in a city in constant movement and change. The Cathedral is also a reflection of the passage of generations and architectural styles mixed in a building of mostly Gothic character that must be visited inside to understand its splendour. The construction of the Cathedral of Barcelona took place over six centuries. Suffering from the donations of medieval guilds and guilds, the Santa Creu began to be built in 1298, on the sanctified land where there used to be a 4th century Paleochristian basilica, destroyed by the troops of Al-Mansur. Only the baptistery remains of this one. From the Romanesque church before the Gothic one, the chapel of Santa Lucia remains, while the oldest door of the Cathedral is that of St. Ivo. On the other hand, the main façade and the tower were finished around 1890, following the initial plans and therefore following a neo-Gothic style. Once inside, we are surprised by the 25 side chapels, the magnificent 14th century cloister and the choir stalls, which were used to gather the members of the Golden Fleece during the visit of Emperor Charles V of Germany in 1517. Of great beauty are the pulpit and the crypt where the remains of one of the patron saints of Barcelona, Santa Eulàlia, to whom the temple is dedicated, rest. The Latin cross plan and the ribbed rounds, as well as the beautiful stained glass windows, fill the interior space of the Cathedral with light.”

“One of the best surviving examples of the Catalan Gothic style, this graceful basilica stands out for its characteristic horizontal lines, plain surfaces, square buttresses and flat-topped octagonal towers. Its superb unity of style is down to the fact that it was built relatively quickly, with construction taking just 55 years (1329 to 1384). There’s also some stunning stained glass, especially the great 15th-century rose window above the main door. The original window fell down during an earthquake, killing 25. The incongruous modern window at the other end was a 1997 addition, belatedly celebrating the Olympics.”

Tapas Restaurant
“Packed to the rafters with dusty bottles of wine, this classic but minuscule bar makes up for in tapas what it lacks in space. The specialities are 'conservas' (shellfish preserved in tins), which aren't always to non-Spanish tastes, but the 'montaditos' (sculpted tapas served on bread) are spectacular. Try salmon sashimi with cream cheese, honey and soy, or cod, passata and black olive pâté. Get there early for any chance of a surface on which to put your drink.”
