“This is where the remains of "Cheddar Man" was found in Gough's Cave. The skeletal remains date to the Mesolithic period and it appears he died a violent death. It is the oldest complete human skeleton the remains of which are kept by the British History Museum in London. Analysis of local DNA indicate that his direct decendants still live in Cheddar! Obtain your tickets from the booking office behind the Chinese Takeway at the botton of the Gorge. ”

Scenic Lookout
“Climb the 274 steps to the top then a further 48 more will take you to the top of the unique Lookout Tower from where you can see some of the best views of the historic Gorge and Somerset Levels. This was the location of many of the cliff scenes from the film "Jack the Giantslayer"! An open top bus will take you on a tour from the bottom of the gorge to the very top and back again with interesting commentary on the estate which belongs to Lord Bath of Longleat.”
