Arts & Culture

The "Foundation Paper Museum" has always worked to spread, disclose and document what concerns the art of making handmade paper of Amalfi. All this is possible thanks to the work of its founder: Nicola Milano. He was forced to close the paper mill because it was impossible to continue to support the high costs resulting mainly from the lack of transport to link road. The last was closed in 1969 and was donated to the nascent Foundation, which he strongly desired and commissioned in November 1971, which was supposed to manage the big idea: the "Paper Museum". Idea that through many problems and vicissitudes came today to be a concrete and interesting reality aimed at preservation of historical heritage and the recovery of ancient arts such as the manufacture of handmade paper.

Four kilometres west of Amalfi, this grotto is named after the eerie emerald colour that emanates from the water. Stalactites hang down from the 24m-high ceiling, while stalagmites grow up to 10m tall. Buses regularly pass the car park above the cave entrance (from where you take a lift or stairs down to the rowing boats)A curiosity of the Grotta is an underwater presepe (nativity scene) submerged 4m beneath the water. The objects made from local Vietri ceramics were put there in 1956.

Located in the hinterland of the Amalfi Coast, Ravello is one of the main popular touristic destinations, either from its historical point of view, or the purely natural one. Defined as "The City of the Music" because of its countless musical shows held all the year,it is a very calm and exclusive city, almost "confidential", so much that it is attended by a kind of elitist tourist that sees, among its protagonists, a lot of famous characters. Villa Rufolo is the Ravello's jewel. It is an elegant and magnificent villa, properly brilliant both from the architectonic and the aesthetic points of view, and contributes to create an evergreen beauty, giving this way the chance of being attracted to whoever has passed or is going to pass from there. As a matter of fact, this is the place which enchanted the musician Wagner, so that he started to think about it as a real meditation refuge. To reach Ravello by public transport, if you start from Salerno, Take line 512001 and get off at the Ravello stop, continue for about 1 kilometer on foot. Reaching Ravello is not as easy as it may seem, since it is situated between Minori and Amalfi. By car you can reach it leaving both from North and South, just taking the exit at Vietri Sul Mare, and, then, going back towards Cetara-Minori-Maiori. The pat is very beautiful, but could be very congested, especially during the weekend and on holidays.
