The neighborhood's best coffee in a shop that always has somewhere to sit. Free WIFI and decent bagels even for a NYC bagel snob like myself. Forget Peet's and Starbucks, go local!

Although I have a special spot in my heart for Vege Thai, the all-vegan place up the street, Samui is the closest good thai food and the lady who runs it is very sweet. It's literally one block away!

I trust the ladies here above all other Portland nail salons. The prices are good, quality is higher than most places here, and the massage chairs are to die for. They do a great eyebrow wax too.

Now THIS is the epitome of a local, grassroots, granola food co-op. Great produce and organic yummies with high prices to match. A good place to check out the local super-hippie scene.

Mike Spencer cuts and colors my ("naturally red") hair here and does an impeccable job for unconscionably low prices. Vinnie's takes appointments and drop-ins, as do most Portland salons.
