A trip to Gloucester wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the 11th century Gloucester Cathedral, resting place of King Edward II, home of the majestic Great East Window and recently a hugely popular film and television location. Most famously it has been used to shoot scenes for the Harry Potter series of hit films, as well as Mary Queen of Scots, Sherlock, Wolf Hall and Doctor Who.

Shares common land so many walkers and dogs, couple of shared fairways. Can be quite a challenge with iron age earthworks that resemble dunes on a links course and at least one hole where you need to drive over a quarry from the tee. Many balls are lost up here.

Turn up and play, it has a hut with honesty box & toilet so you can pay and get a card. Not too challenging, a firm favourite with my boys, great family option, well kept, great location and well maintained. Groundsmen will check tickets on occasion. No dress code and no-one's going to complain if your occasional young golfer turns up without golf shoes. Take care going in and emerging as entrance is onto a treacherous road/bend/dip combo.
