Grocery Shopping
This store is only about 7 minutes walk from the house, and is located in the pretty village of Sandymount. Open until 10PM each evening. Bring reusable bags.
Also online delivery at https://www.tesco.ie/
It is very reasonable compared to charges in other countries at circa €3/5/7 but available slots generally mean a 2/3 day wait or longer at times.
Much cheaper than Metro or MACE and closer than the nearest Lidl in Ranelagh.
Particularly good is Irish Rib-Eye Steak (2 for €6); Salmon Darnes ( 2 for €4, bake in tin foil with butter, salt and pepper) or Lamb Chops to fry at €6 for 4. Also Irish smoked salmon, salted butter and brown soda bread.
For vegetarians, there is a good size fresh vegetable section and frozen vegetarian section. Also check out the listing for 'Nourish' across the road in my Dublin 4 guidebook.

Go to the Roly's café at the right hand side for top restaurant quality dinners to take away for under €10!
Roasterie sandwiches are yum.
After 3/4PM any regular sandwiches left are sold for half price!!

Walk into the city centre!
A 30-minute stroll into the city center is recommended as you avoid public transport and can sight-see en route. Get a takeaway coffee and watch the people or ducks in St. Stephen's Green Park opposite the famous Shelbourne Hotel and Grafton Street.
Check out the stunning architecture including the world famous 'Georgian Mile.'

Walk to the Beach (but watch the tide behind you!)
The beach is also just 8 minutes walk from the house, through Sandymount village. Grab a takeaway from the hatch at 'Strand Fare' or a Morelli's ice cream from the Butlers Pantry, both in the village.
Do not swim as the status of water quality fluctuates and there are channels and riptides. If walking to the sea when the tide is out check that these channels do not fill behind you; tourists are routinely airlifted off the beach and I don't want it to be you!
