Classic California beach. The drive is a travel through time to the way California used to be. Try the "World Famous Jalama Beach Burger". Wonderful place for a long walk. Try to go at low tide.

Loma Alta is just a minute from the house. The best views of Santa Barbara are on the walk up to the top. Once there you can walk down the other side to Leadbetter beach.

Great local beach. Good sand and not as crowded as the beaches by the Santa Barbara pier. Try the Boathouse restaurant right there. Great place to watch the sunset.

Great place for a photo. This Moreton Bay Fig Tree, believed the largest in the US, is next to the Train Station. It was central to Santa Barbara before Hwy 101 and cut the city in 1/2 in 1980s.

I love this place for an intimate dinner. Great food and a wonderful atmosphere. It is worth the short drive and is a better value that State Street places. Charlie Chaplin used to own it.

Another favorite of ours. This is a great place for lunch or a late night bite after hitting the bars. Very creative food. Very casual. It is open for lunch and late, but not every day. Check times.

Best bakery in the county, bar none. D'Angelo's is owned by a German couple and no one knows their bread like the Germans (and yes, I am biased). Great breakfast and lunch as well.

Hendry's Boathouse is a great beachfront restaurant and bar. The location is great and the food is good. If the weather permits sit outside. It is always busy, so leave time to have a cocktail.

The Opal is a Franco-Asian restaurant. It get great reviews and deserves them. It is relatively small with an open kitchen. Great place to go if you are seeing something at the Arlington Theater.

This may be the most famous restaurant in town as it was Julia Child's favorite. It is little more than a hole in the wall physically, but the food makes up for the total lack of ambiance.

A great beach side restaurant at Leadbetter beach. Where else can you sit at a table in the sand? Yes, with your feet in the sand! A place to enjoy a nice sunny day after a nice jog along the beach.

The Brewhouse is a neighborhood institution. The brew pub is visited by students, and high end diners alike. The evenings offer live bands. I go there for the local atmosphere more than the food.
