Take the Staten Island for free and enjoy the 30-minute ride that passes right in front of the Statue of Liberty.
Go at sunset, enjoy the view and watch downtown lit up on your way back.
You'll have to exit the boat once you arrive to Staten Island but you can board right back or walk to the bar nearby for a drink with great views before heading back.
If it's summer, you can even head to the stadium and catch a minor league game for about $12. Some games even include some quite spectacular fireworks at the end!
