Two Boots, my old favorite pizzeria from the Lower East Side in NYC. Living in Silverlake/Echo Park, I was thrilled to learn their new LA store is a short six block walk from my place.

I have a friend that lives in Marina del Rey who drives across town just to come to this stylish hole-in-the-wall Pho restaurant. He said it's his favorite in LA. Always crowded but short wait. YUM.

The coffee here is fabulous. Even better with a slice of the Guava/Creme Cheese pastry. It is "eyes roll back in your head" delicious. A Silverlake landmark and CHEAP.

Dusty's is a bit fancier, but worth every penny. Delicious offerings across the board. My favorite is the Sheherazade salad. They have a really nice wine list and big cozy booths. Great atmosphere.

My favorite local late-night greasy spoon diner. I'll take their burger over the famed Father's Office anyday. A nice six-block stroll away from the house. They also make great shakes!

Best stop for all the basics and more. Cheaper and more interesting selection than Gelson's across the street. Park in the 2nd parking lot for easier in/out as the main TJ's parking is a nacht-mare.

Another option - open later than TJ's. And closer to the house. They have a full deli for sandwiches and cold cuts. Less fancy than Gelson's, less options than TJ's but fine for a basics.

Weekly Farmer's Market in the hood. I personally prefer the FRIDAY Market in Echo Park - located in Parking lot 663 on Logan Street south of Sunset (behind the bldg. across from Walgreens).

One of the last old-school movie houses in Silverlake. They refurbished the entire place a decade ago and removed every other row, so tons of leg-room. Pretty low prices for new releases.

Great for lap swimming. This is a city-run, completely renovated pool with great facilities. Free with an LA Public Library card, which I will loan you if you want to go.
