The annual BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival at Prospect Park puts on concerts throughout the summer. Many offer free admission, no tickets required.
If you can't get a ticket for a special performance, you can enjoy the music from the lawns just behind the bandshell.

Nice half-day out with the family. Rent a bike or just walk around and explore the island; grab a bite at the stalls; plenty of pop-up sights and activities for the family.

Visit the BBG in the spring / summer when it's in bloom. Nice, quiet place for a walk, picnic etc. Right next to Prospect Park so can easily be combined.

OK, so it’s not the Met. But the Brooklyn Museum has an impressive collection and puts on some great exhibits. Summer 2018: David Bowie Is. Also check out their monthly "first saturday" evening events with free admission.
