You could just walk around the city center - the townhall/city hall/ Rathaus is also an attraction. At 11am and 12pm (and 5pm if it is NOT winter), the figurines at the tower balcony would start twirling.

Where the Oktoberfest is held every year - there are events held there throughout the year but you would have to check - otherwise it is not the effort because it is a huge empty field when there are no events being held (although it is a 10 minutes walk from the apartment)
